Sr. Solutions Architect, Cloud Native
About the role
We are looking for a Sr. Solutions Architect to lead TradeStation's internal Kubernetes platform team. This role combines hands-on technical leadership with team management responsibilities, guiding a small but high-impact team of platform engineers who build and operate the container orchestration infrastructure that powers TradeStation's trading systems.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the Kubernetes platform team, including hiring, performance management, and career development
- Foster a collaborative, high-performance culture and mentor platform engineers through code reviews and architecture discussions
- Coordinate with cross-functional stakeholders to prioritize platform roadmap and communicate progress
- Architect and evolve TradeStation's Kubernetes platform strategy, including multi-region patterns, disaster recovery, and hybrid cloud deployments
- Design and implement platform services including service mesh (Cilium), GitOps (ArgoCD), observability (Datadog), and security controls
- Build templates, operators, and self-service tooling that accelerate development teams while maintaining compliance guardrails
- Drive infrastructure-as-code adoption (Terraform) and evaluate build-vs-buy decisions for platform capabilities
- Ensure platform meets financial services SLAs including 99.99% uptime during market hours
- Define runbooks, incident response procedures, and disaster recovery playbooks; proactively mitigate architectural risks
- Leverage AI-assisted development tools to accelerate platform engineering and integrate AI tooling into CI/CD and operational workflows
Requirements
- Expert-level Kubernetes knowledge – control plane internals, scheduler, CNI (Cilium), CRDs, and multi-cluster/multi-region operations
- Deep AWS experience (EKS, VPC, IAM) with infrastructure-as-code proficiency (Terraform)
- Hands-on experience with GitOps (ArgoCD), service mesh, and policy engines (OPA/Gatekeeper)
- Strong programming skills (Python, Go, or similar) for platform tooling and automation
- Experience with CI/CD platforms (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI) and observability stacks (Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana)
- Familiarity with developer portal concepts (Backstage) and platform engineering practices
- Experience with AI-assisted development tools and workflows
- Demonstrated leadership skills with experience mentoring engineers or leading technical initiatives
- Excellent communication skills – ability to translate complex technical concepts for diverse audiences
- Experience with financial services or trading systems preferred
- Prior experience managing or building platform/infrastructure teams preferred
Qualifications
- B.S. or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent work experience)
- 10+ years of professional experience in software engineering, DevOps, or platform engineering
- 5+ years hands-on experience with Kubernetes in production environments
- 5+ years hands-on experience with AWS or other major cloud providers
- 3+ years experience in a progressive technical leadership role (team lead, tech lead, or similar)
