Sr. Software Engineer, Structural
Higharc is a VC-backed startup transforming how new homes are designed and built. Join a founding team with experience shipping products for Autodesk, Electronic Arts, Nike, and Apple. Backed by over $175M from top venture capital firms and 18+ strategic investors in construction, manufacturing, and distribution, we’re building the future of homebuilding software.
About the role
As an early member of a new team, you’ll shape both the product and the technical direction. This is a hands-on, individual-contributor role with the opportunity to grow into a tech lead. You’ll bridge structural engineering and software development, translating real-world framing and structural systems into robust, scalable code. Expect ambiguity, shifting priorities, and the chance to build something entirely new.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement algorithms and systems for framing and structural analysis, from prototypes to a shippable MVP.
- Use AI-assisted workflows to accelerate development while ensuring correctness, maintainability, and reliability.
- Collaborate with product, customer success, and engineering teams to define behavior, identify gaps, and ensure customer satisfaction.
- Apply structural engineering expertise to guide software decisions, ensuring real-world accuracy in framing and structural systems.
- Write tests to handle edge cases and maintain code quality.
- Help shape the technical direction of a growing team and mentor others as the team evolves.
- Navigate ambiguity and adapt as priorities shift in an emerging product space.
Requirements
- 3–5 years of professional software engineering experience, preferably with TypeScript.
- Structural or mechanical engineering experience (academic or professional).
- Familiarity with computational geometry and mathematical modeling.
- Proficiency with modern development tools, including AI-assisted workflows, and a strong sense of ownership over code quality.
- Comfort working in ambiguity and adapting to evolving priorities.
- Clear communication of tradeoffs, timelines, and decisions in a dynamic environment.
Nice to have
- Experience building framing, structural analysis, or CAD/CAM tools.
- Background in multiple engineering stacks (e.g., C#, Python) and ability to quickly adapt to TypeScript and React.
