Sr Software Engineer I
About the role
While our Senior Software Engineer I is involved in multiple initiatives across the Technology organization, the primary focus is collaborating with Technology and Business teams to design, build, and implement high-quality web and process applications. This role also supports the Client Success department in resolving production process issues and troubleshooting technical challenges.
Responsibilities
- Propose technical solutions to the Manager, Application Engineering
- Design, develop, test, and implement improvements or new features for the Waystar website and core processing applications
- Develop and augment applications based on functional and technical specifications
- Adhere to Waystar coding standards and approved technologies; propose amendments when necessary
- Unit test all changes in development and collaborate with Business and/or Technology Owners to ensure solutions meet business requirements
- Communicate development progress daily to senior-level team members
- Address work items assigned through the internal case system in a timely manner
- Take ownership of assigned work items, communicate estimates and daily progress as part of the SDLC process, and actively resolve blocking issues
- Assist in the QA process
- Participate in Production Code Turn days, providing deployment instructions and conducting post-release Smoke Testing
- Develop and maintain open, fluid communication with Management and positive relationships with team members
- Assist in creating and approving technical specifications
- Identify areas of the application that require refactoring
- Collaborate with various departments to design and implement enhancements to the existing web application, including SQL table design, stored procedure design, and process design
- Track development changes using internal tools and communicate abnormalities to the QA Team for progression to production
- Identify and report opportunities for application improvement through refactoring, optimization, or new technology solutions
- Notify the Manager of any application issues and work toward implementing solutions
- Reassign items that cannot be addressed in a timely manner in collaboration with the Manager
- Provide and update project task estimates using internal tools
- Solve complex technical problems with minimal oversight
- Mentor fellow team members to help them build correct technical solutions
- Perform additional duties as assigned
Requirements
- 6+ years of .NET and SQL Server experience
- Unit Testing experience
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and embrace change
- Highly self-motivated
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
- Experience building highly scalable software solutions
- Subject Matter Expertise in at least one technical track
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent work experience
Preferred Skills
- N-Tier and SaaS development experience
