The technology team researches and develops scalable applications, identifies new technologies and trends, and builds innovative solutions that support customers throughout buying, renting, and selling journeys. Senior Backend Software Engineers are expected to leverage AI coding assistants and large language models to accelerate development, generate boilerplate, and troubleshoot complex debugging scenarios, while critically evaluating AI‑generated outputs for security, performance, and accuracy.

Potential Teams

• Seller Services: Build core systems for agent dashboards, lead delivery, and tools that help agents manage listings, clients, and grow their business.
• Branding & Promotions: Develop products that enable agents to promote listings, work on customer‑facing features, backend services, and pricing/packaging experiments.
• Lead Services: Create technology that matches customers with real‑estate professionals, improving partner matching and driving business goals.
• Agent Branding: Build portals for agents to configure and report on branding performance, and expose client brands across Realtor.com.
• The Online Store: Lead development of a digital storefront that lets agents and brokers self‑serve product offerings and purchases, architecting a scalable platform for rapid growth.
• Performance and Insights: Build visual dashboards, use data science to provide insights, and create conversational agents for brokers.
• RDC Plus: Contribute to next‑generation platforms, intelligent workflow tools, and scalable backend services that empower agents.
• Content & Industry Services: Own platforms and data pipelines that power core consumer, client, and industry experiences, ingesting and normalizing over 1,800 data integrations.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and delivery for ambiguous or complex problem spaces within the squad.
• Provide guidance on system architecture and design to team members.
• Develop high‑quality, scalable, and reliable solutions.
• Collaborate with Product Managers, Designers, Analysts, and Engineers in cross‑functional squads.
• Mentor and develop a team of engineers, actively participating in code reviews and design discussions.
• Investigate and prototype emerging technologies to introduce new innovations.
• Work independently, taking initiative and driving solutions with minimal guidance.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional software development experience.
• 2+ years contributing to system architecture and design.
• Proficiency with Python (FastAPI, Pydantic, NumPy, Pandas), React, Node.js, and GraphQL.
• Experience with cloud systems, preferably AWS.
• Knowledge of data platforms and pipelines (Snowflake & Airflow preferred).
• Experience with relational or non‑relational databases.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
• Interest in AI/ML and willingness to learn and apply emerging technologies.
• Demonstrated ability to deliver high value to customers quickly with regular feedback.
• Experience evaluating trade‑offs between design approaches.
• Familiarity with software engineering best practices (testing, code reviews, documentation).
• Experience developing scalable systems.
