About the role

Amazon S3 processes hundreds of millions of requests per second worldwide. As a Senior Software Development Engineer on the S3 Foundations team, you will set the technical direction for the systems that validate, release, and observe new S3 software across every AWS Region. The Foundations team owns the platform that safely delivers software to the fleet handling every S3 API request, from pre‑production validation and qualification to post‑processing services such as metering, API events, and request logging. This senior, hands‑on technical leadership role sits at the intersection of massive‑scale distributed systems, developer experience, and operational excellence.

Responsibilities

• Own the architecture of deployment, validation, and observability systems that every S3 front‑end change flows through, delivering designs through multiple engineers.
• Set technical strategy for a modernization agenda that increases release frequency, compresses worldwide deployment times, hardens automated deployment safety, and decomposes legacy services into modern, independently deployable systems.
• Define and drive the self‑service “builder experience” platform enabling S3 engineers to validate, deploy, and observe changes without waiting on others.
• Lead the adoption of AI as a core part of building and operating software, establishing AI‑assisted development patterns and designing automated on‑call assistants.
• Raise the engineering bar as a force multiplier: lead design reviews, mentor engineers, and partner with Principal Engineers and senior leaders to align technical direction.
• Architect validation, deployment, and observability platforms that make engineers across S3’s front‑end organization measurably faster and safer.
• Influence technical strategy across multiple S3 teams, coordinating feature validation and delivery for the front‑end organization.

Basic Qualifications

• 5+ years of non‑internship professional software development experience.
• 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language.
• 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability, and scaling) of new and existing systems.
• Experience as a mentor, tech lead, or leading an engineering team.

Preferred Qualifications

• 5+ years of full software development life‑cycle experience, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent.

Pay

Base salary range: USD 168,100.00 – 227,400.00 annually (final compensation determined by experience, qualifications, and location). Includes sign‑on payments and RSUs.
