About the role
Medtronic Neuroscience is focused on transforming care for patients with neurological, spinal, and chronic pain conditions. Through meaningful innovation and strong clinical partnerships, we help clinicians deliver therapies that improve lives and expand what is possible in-patient care. Cranial & Spinal Technologies advances surgical care for patients with spine and cranial conditions. We develop innovative solutions that help clinicians plan, navigate, and deliver procedures with accuracy, efficiency, and patient outcomes in mind.
This position has the responsibility and authority to develop and perform test automation verification & validation activities for software and systems to ensure Medtronic’s cutting-edge medical products meet our user’s needs and our quality and reliability standards. This position requires technical expertise to independently determine and develop approaches to solve complex technical problems with ingenuity and creativity. Work is performed under limited direction.
Responsibilities
- Develop comprehensive test strategies including requirements traceability matrices, test architecture design (unit/integration/system), and data-driven testing approaches
- Design, develop, test, maintain and document/validate software testing components and applications
- Participate in all phases of product development as needed such as reviewing requirements, design, usability, risk assessment, and testing execution
- Contribute to the completion of work group objectives through building relationships and consensus to reach agreements on assignments
- Interface with mechanical, electrical, systems, software and test engineers
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives for test automation infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, test data management, and testing efficiency metrics
- Participate in defect tracking and analysis
- Troubleshoot, debug, maintain, and support existing products
- Effectively communicate findings, problems and solutions to project teams and stakeholders
- Collaborate and maintain excellent working relationships with team members and stakeholders
- May manage projects requiring delegation of work and review of work products
- Follow Medtronic Navigation product development standards and practices
- Perform all activities in compliance with the Quality System
- Perform duties in compliance with environmental, health and safety related site rules, policies and governmental regulations
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Engineering with 4 years of relevant experience OR a Masters Degree with 2 years of relevant experience OR PhD
- Experience with software design, development, debug and test practices
- Advanced proficiency with Python including OOP, data structures, file I/O
- Software development or testing experience in the medical industry or other regulated industry
- Experience developing and/or testing GUI applications and Medical Devices
Skills
- Test Automation Architecture: Designing scalable, maintainable test frameworks
- Strong experience with pytest (markers, fixtures, parametrization) and unittest
- Experience with Cypress, Jest, JavaScript, Python, JSON, CSV, and Excel file processing using pandas and openpyxl
- CI/CD Pipelines: Setting up automated test execution and reporting
- TensorFlow/Machine Learning: Experience with ML libraries for analysis
- Parallel Processing: Understanding of Python multiprocessing module for CPU-intensive CAD comparison tasks
- Able to handle multiple tasks/projects and manage priorities
- Strong knowledge of modern, iterative software design processes and development practices including agile and test-driven development
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with business and technical stakeholders to help facilitate cross functional communications
- Linux/Unix: Comfortable with shell scripting (bash), command-line tools, and virtual environments
- Project management skills including planning, estimation and requirements management
- Understanding of FDA Quality System Regulations (QSR)
For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.

Pay
Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD): $124,800.00 - $187,200.00. This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP). The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location.
