About the Role

Collins Aerospace seeks an experienced Senior Systems Engineer to join its service engineering and support team in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. This role provides on-site support for military installations across the U.S., requiring expertise in computer hardware, software, and networking, including Linux RHEL or similar operating systems. The position involves working closely with military customers, including pilots and maintainers, and coordinating activities with Program Management, Design Engineering, and other Service Engineers. The candidate must possess strong interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders in various environments.

This is a fully onsite role located in Cedar Rapids, IA, with approximately 50-75% travel. The role may require atypical hours based on customer needs and is eligible for relocation assistance.

Responsibilities

  • Provide on-site maintenance capabilities, including component triage, testing, repair, replacement, and upgrades.
  • Interface with internal and external customers, demonstrating a broad understanding of systems.
  • Execute program milestones according to established schedules, managing critical paths and key dependencies.
  • Review detailed execution plans and schedules with project management and Service Engineering teams to ensure alignment with program-level plans.
  • Advise customers on the physical installation of avionics equipment on ground, airborne, and shipboard platforms.
  • Participate in determining assignment objectives and work on a flexible schedule as required by the customer.
  • Install avionics equipment at fixed, geographically remote sites and on airborne military platforms in accordance with engineering specifications.
  • Attend internal and external meetings, documenting discussions for the program team.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds independently.

Requirements

  • Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience (unless prohibited by local laws/regulations).
  • Current, valid driver’s license.
  • Experience with Python programming, Wireshark, and Linux administration (via experience or CompTIA Linux+).
  • Experience in avionics, integration, post-installation testing, and certification activities.
  • Experience training customers and system users, both ad-hoc and in a classroom setting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Network certification (e.g., CompTIA Network+) or a relevant degree.
  • Field service experience.
  • Previous range experience (PODs/Operators, etc.).
  • Prior military experience.

Pay

The salary range for this role is $86,800 - $165,200 USD. The range provided is a good-faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including role, function, responsibilities, work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
