Responsibilities
- Serve as the scientific strategist within Global Medical Affairs, responsible for transforming scientific evidence into strategic initiatives that advance clinical practice, product adoption, and business objectives.
- Combine deep scientific expertise with strong business acumen to identify evidence gaps, shape scientific narratives, influence cross-functional strategy, and independently drive high-impact initiatives across the product lifecycle.
- Lead through expertise, champion a culture of innovation, challenge conventional thinking, and independently translate complex science into actionable strategies that influence Medical Affairs, Clinical Affairs, Marketing, Regulatory, and Commercial organizations.
- Scientific Strategy & Evidence Leadership:
- Drive initiatives that strengthen the scientific foundation, evidence strategy, and competitive positioning of the Cordis portfolio.
- Translate complex clinical and scientific evidence into meaningful insights that inform Medical Affairs strategy, business decisions, product adoption, and lifecycle management.
- Identify scientific, clinical, and evidence gaps and proactively recommend strategies to address unmet physician, patient, and business needs.
- Develop and maintain deep expertise in disease states, therapeutic areas, clinical guidelines, and emerging scientific literature relevant to the Cordis portfolio.
- Scientific Communications & Publication Strategy:
- Own the end-to-end scientific communication strategy, including publication planning, congress strategy, abstracts, manuscripts, podium presentations, white papers, case reports, and scientific evidence dissemination.
- Lead the development, review, and scientific integrity of medical content for internal and external audiences, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and compliance.
- Continuously monitor scientific literature, clinical guidelines, conference proceedings, and competitive evidence, translating emerging data into actionable recommendations for Medical Affairs and cross-functional partners.
- Develop scientific narratives that clearly articulate the clinical value and differentiation of Cordis technologies.
- Cross-Functional partnerships:
- Partner with Marketing and Medical Education to assist in synthesizing scientific evidence into practical ensuring scientific accuracy, clinical relevance, and compliance.
- Support launch readiness by developing scientific platforms, evidence summaries, objection handling resources, competitive intelligence, and field scientific materials.
- Provide scientific leadership for publication committees, and evidence generation initiatives.
- Strategic Project Leadership:
- Independently lead multiple complex, cross-functional scientific initiatives from concept through execution with minimal supervision.
- Develop project strategies, timelines, governance structures, stakeholder alignment, and execution plans while proactively identifying risks and mitigation strategies.
- Demonstrate ownership and accountability for delivering high-quality outcomes on time and with measurable business impact.
- Anticipate organizational needs and proactively develop solutions rather than waiting for direction.
- Scientific Intelligence & Business Partnership:
- Develop a deep understanding of the competitive landscape, physician treatment paradigms, and evolving clinical evidence to inform strategic decision-making.
- Translate scientific evidence into practical, evidence-based messaging that supports physician education, field scientific exchange, and business objectives while maintaining scientific integrity.
- Demonstrate strong business acumen by understanding how scientific evidence influences physician behavior, customer adoption, market dynamics, and organizational priorities.
- Provide strategic scientific input into investigator-sponsored research proposals and ensure alignment with Medical Affairs and business priorities.
- External Scientific Engagement:
- Build and maintain collaborative scientific relationships with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), investigators, academic institutions, and professional societies.
- Represent Medical Affairs at scientific congresses, investigator meetings, advisory boards, and external scientific forums.
- Gather external insights to identify emerging scientific trends, unmet clinical needs, and future evidence-generation opportunities.
- Compliance & Operational Excellence:
- Ensure all Medical Affairs activities adhere to applicable regulatory requirements, ICMJE publication standards, Good Publication Practice (GPP), AdvaMed Code, FDA regulations, and internal compliance policies.
- Contribute to the continuous development and improvement of Medical Affairs processes, scientific communication standards, and operational excellence.
- Maintain the highest standards of scientific rigor, ethics, patient focus, and data integrity across all activities.
Qualifications
- Minimum 8+ years of relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree; or equivalent education and experience;
- Or 6+ years and a Master's degree;
- Or a PhD with 3+ years experience;
- Or equivalent experience.
- Where required, the role must hold an appropriate degree in the industry (eg. Legal).
- Strong understanding of clinical trial design, biostatistics, evidence appraisal, and interpretation of scientific literature.
- Demonstrated ability to translate complex scientific evidence into meaningful insights that support physician education, Medical Affairs strategy, and business objectives.
- Excellent scientific writing, communication, and presentation skills, with experience developing publications, scientific communications, and educational materials.
- Proven ability to lead complex cross-functional initiatives, manage multiple priorities, and deliver results independently.
- Strong business acumen with the ability to understand customer needs, competitive landscapes, and product lifecycle strategy while maintaining scientific integrity.
- Experience building collaborative relationships with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) and cross-functional stakeholders.
- Knowledge of the regulatory and compliance requirements governing Medical Affairs activities (e.g., FDA, ICMJE, GPP, AdvaMed).
- Demonstrated initiative, strategic thinking, sound judgment, and a proactive, solutions-oriented approach.
- Ability to travel approximately 25% (primarily domestic with occasional international travel).
