About the role
The Revenue Cycle Sr Business Operations Specialist serves as a liaison between revenue cycle and clinical practices, reporting to the Manager of Revenue Cycle Performance. This role requires a high level of revenue cycle knowledge, including Rush-specific processes and industry best practices. The specialist will monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), drive improvement, provide customer service to clinical areas, and facilitate problem resolution between Revenue Cycle departments, Clinical Areas, and Information Technology.
Responsibilities
- Provide excellent customer service to clinical partners.
- Serve as a revenue cycle best practice expert and liaison to clinical practices.
- Maintain operational knowledge of clinical operations, revenue cycle, new business development, and reimbursement.
- Drive new business architecture and set-up.
- Communicate effectively at executive and frontline levels.
- Liaise between internal/external customers and Information Technology for business definition, scope, testing, and implementation.
- Project manage incoming queries and issues related to revenue cycle management, including patient access, registration, collections, reimbursement, and customer service.
- Facilitate performance improvement (A3) sessions with stakeholders.
- Manage customer relationships and expectations through structured communication processes.
- Onboard new practice leaders to Rush revenue cycle operations and expectations.
- Build and develop relationships with partners to optimize outcomes and address questions or concerns with research-backed recommendations.
- Present data, information, and opportunities confidently to leaders at all levels.
- Monitor key revenue cycle metrics for assigned areas.
- Conduct assessments (interviews, research, observation) to identify areas for improvement.
- Identify trends and address operational, financial, and technological opportunities in partnership with Revenue Cycle and practice colleagues.
- Lead improvement projects aimed at KPI enhancement.
- Mentor others in Revenue Cycle best practices.
- Coordinate and lead regular meetings to devise strategies for improving outcomes.
- Utilize business intelligence (BI) tools, dashboards, and reports for basic reporting needs.
- Run ad hoc reports, perform data analysis, and answer business questions.
- Perform ad hoc account-level reviews to evaluate potential opportunities or defects.
- Demonstrate a commitment to continuous skill improvement through professional development.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field; or equivalent years of relevant experience.
- 5–7 years of healthcare revenue cycle experience.
- Experience with SharePoint.
- Experience with Epic Revenue Cycle modules (certification preferred).
- Project Management experience (certification preferred).
- High-level analytical and financial reporting skills.
- Strong time management and organizational ability.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Epic Clarity experience.
- Epic Revenue Cycle Certification.
- Project Management Certification.
- Lean Management Certification.
Schedule
Full-time (0.9–1.0 FTE), Shift 1, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM.
Pay
$38.02–$55.18 per hour. Rush salaries are determined by factors including education, job-related experience, skills, and internal equity.
