Sr. Research Specialist (Cell Biology)

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Research Specialist (Senior Microscopy Specialist) who contributes intellectually to our laboratory's research interests. This role collaborates with Principal Investigators (PIs) to make decisions that can alter research objectives and direction. The position involves performing complex assays, contributing to writing peer-reviewed manuscripts and funding proposals, and managing the SOM Microscope Facility as a core resource.

Responsibilities

• Develop, design, and manage substantial research projects, coordinating their objectives.
• Perform sophisticated data analysis using a comprehensive knowledge base and experience with various methods.
• In a clinical setting, develop and validate clinical protocols.
• Collaborate in the development of new technologies, protocols, and equipment uses.
• Contribute original thoughts, hypotheses, and analyses to write reports, abstracts, and manuscripts.
• Function scientifically in the laboratory comparable to a postdoctoral fellow.
• Independently perform assays specific to the laboratory's interests.
• May provide oversight and direction to staff, including conducting interviews, making hiring recommendations, and evaluating performance.
• Enhance problem-solving through interactions and discussions with collaborators or senior researchers at meetings and professional presentations.
• Make decisions regarding laboratory projects that may require assessment, revision of objectives, or alteration of scientific direction.
• Consider resources and laboratory priorities when making decisions.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry, or related field.
• Four years of experience in a comparable laboratory performing relevant techniques.
• Master's Degree with related graduate research is preferred.
