Responsibilities
- Sets up and performs experiments and procedures in support of lab goals and grant commitments, such as assays, cell/tissue culture, animal studies, etc.
- Contributes to the planning and design of studies and experiments in the research lab setting.
- Collaborates with investigators in writing protocols for the conduct of research, including purposes of study, design of experiments, lists of materials, methods to be used, and the schedule of activities.
- Aids faculty researchers in the design of research projects and in the presentation of research proposals.
- Documents research leading to patent disclosure or technical and/or scientific advancement.
- Organizes research activities in accordance with approved protocols.
- Informs all staff of their responsibilities in the project.
- Teaches laboratory techniques and instrumentation procedures to graduate student and professional laboratory support staff.
- Counsels on technical problems, advises, and assists them with study techniques.
- Oversees day-to-day operation of project or laboratory and may supervise research and support personnel.
- Develops and installs operating procedures for the laboratory as it pertains to safety.
- Ensures health and safety practices are maintained in accordance with University policy and the law.
- Creates and maintains project specific safety manual.
- Prepares written reports and presentations on all ongoing projects in the assigned lab, including statistical analysis of all results that will be used in the publication of articles.
- Co-authors or authors publications and may co-present results with Principal Investigator at meetings and/or conferences.
- Aids in acquiring research funding including development of grant proposals.
- Maintains contact with associated internal and external research laboratories, vendors, and technical representatives concerning the project.
- Orients visitors to the laboratory.
- Keeps abreast of trends in field of interest by reading professional journals and attending/participating in weekly lab meetings, and, as appropriate, institutes and seminars.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree and 5 years of related work experience involving direct assistance to researchers required
- Master's degree preferred
- PhD preferred
- Or equivalent combination of education and experience

- Ability to troubleshoot and repair equipment as needed
