Sr. R&D Engineer (Product Development Activities)

Location: Franklin Lakes, NJ • 12+ month contract • 40 hours/week • Pay rate: $40–55/hr (1st shift) • W2 contract for US citizens or Green Card holders only

About the role

We are seeking a Senior R&D Engineer to drive product development activities for a medical-device company. This is a hands-on engineering role, not primarily a testing position.

Responsibilities

• Write complex Design Verification plans, protocols, and reports.
• Apply statistical techniques (Minitab) to analyze data and generate plots/graphs that demonstrate performance against acceptance criteria in DV reports.
• Draft and secure cross-functional support for engineering rationales that underpin product development decisions.
• Execute Design Verification testing: build samples, follow test protocols/methods, collect and prepare data, and maintain good laboratory practices.
• Communicate technical concepts clearly—both verbally and in writing—to technical and non-technical team members, articulating problem statements, investigative approaches, potential solutions, final recommendations, and implementation plans.
• Make sound decisions with limited or ambiguous information, rapidly absorbing data to solve complex problems.
• Lead product-development initiatives within a cross-functional team, solving complex problems and meeting milestones in a dynamic environment.

Requirements

• Minimum 6 years of experience as a product design/development engineer in the medical-device, pharmaceutical, or other regulated industry; experience with FDA Class II or III medical devices preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering (mechanics focus); Master’s degree or higher preferred.

Skills

• Proficiency with Minitab and statistical data analysis.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Self-directed, proactive, and capable of complex decision-making.
