Sr. QA Lead / Technical Project Manager (FTE / Onsite)

About the role
NTT DATA is seeking a hands-on Sr. QA Lead / Technical Project Manager to drive quality assurance across web, mobile, API, mainframe, and database systems. This role ensures systems are reliable, scalable, and secure while supporting modernization initiatives such as cloud migrations, mobile framework upgrades, and re-platforming. The position involves leading QA strategy, managing KPIs, and fostering collaboration across product, development, and operations teams to embed quality into delivery pipelines.
Responsibilities
- Define and execute a forward-looking QA strategy that supports modernization initiatives while maintaining stability in legacy systems.
- Establish and manage KPIs, KRIs, RTM, standards, and processes to measure and improve organizational quality maturity, including automation coverage, effectiveness, and ROI metrics.
- Contribute to test planning and execution by determining optimal test approaches across functional, regression, integration, performance, compliance, and UAT phases.
- Partner with product, development, and operations teams to align QA with business priorities, ensuring automation is applied where it adds maximum value.
- Provide input and estimates for SQA tasks, including automation feasibility, prioritization, and effort vs. value, and ensure timely status reporting of QA tasks, risks, and issues.
- Design extensible test automation harnesses to expand automation coverage across platforms.
- Drive process innovation and continuous improvement across QA practices, tools, and cross-team collaboration.
- Serve as project leader on large, complex projects, managing planning, scheduling, documentation, and test strategy updates.
- Lead defect triage, root cause analysis, and risk mitigation to prevent recurrence of critical issues.
- Supervise and mentor SQA engineers, including performance management, staffing, employee relations, and compensation.
- Act as a subject-matter expert (SME) for applications and QA processes, including test strategy, automation coverage, and quality engineering practices.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, technology, engineering, information technology, or equivalent discipline.
- 10+ years of progressive QA experience in enterprise-scale environments, with consistent hands-on involvement in testing.
- 5+ years in a QA management role, balancing leadership responsibilities with direct contribution.
- Strong experience in web, mainframe, API, mobile (including devices, simulators/emulators, and cloud-based test platforms).
- 10+ years of experience in estimating, prioritizing, planning, and coordinating testing activities, including decisions on test approach and automation prioritization.
- 10+ years of hands-on test case and test protocol writing skills, with proficiency in multiple testing methodologies (functional, regression, integration, exploratory, performance).
- 10+ years of experience with modern test and defect management tools (Jira, TestRail, ALM, or equivalents).
- 10+ years of hands-on experience testing SOAP and REST APIs with Postman or equivalent tools.
- Familiarity with compliance and regulatory testing in financial or other highly regulated domains.
- Demonstrated success in QA leadership for modernization initiatives, with continuous personal involvement in testing and validation activities.
Skills
- Proven ability to lead by example as a hands-on QA practitioner, earning credibility in both manual testing leadership and automation strategy.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to scale QA teams while remaining actively involved in test strategy, planning, and decision-making.
- Excellent communication and executive presence to present QA metrics, risks, and recommendations grounded in hands-on knowledge.
- Deep knowledge of testing methodologies and QA tools, with a record of applying them directly in complex projects.
- Expertise in multi-platform QA (mainframe, web, mobile, APIs, databases) with practical, hands-on experience.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, including debugging and root cause analysis of complex, cross-system issues.
- Ability to balance strategic direction with day-to-day technical contribution, ensuring QA maturity and delivery speed.
- Familiarity with regulatory and compliance testing and ability to execute compliance-focused test cycles.
- Knowledge of Waterfall, Agile, DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, and hybrid delivery models, combined with hands-on experience embedding QA in those environments.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to mentor through direct involvement, fostering collaboration and team development.
Pay
The starting pay range for this role is $83,520.00 to $125,280.00. Actual compensation will depend on relevant experience, technical skills, and other qualifications. This position may also be eligible for incentive compensation based on individual and/or company performance.
