Sr Project Manager - Transmission and Substation Projects

About the role

We manage transmission, substation, distribution, gas, and/or information technology projects. Projects involve multiple disciplines and operating areas, including contract resources. We ensure projects stay within scope, budget, and schedule.

Responsibilities

  • Manage scope, schedule, budget, and safety performance of multiple projects and programs.
  • Lead the business case/capital approval process, project plan development, and project closeout.
  • Interface with external and internal stakeholders to coordinate project requirements.
  • Communicate with sponsors and key stakeholders on project issues, including executive-level and interdepartmental presentations.
  • Ensure a good working relationship between the project team, line managers, and interfacing organizations.
  • Coach and lead team members to ensure completion of assigned tasks.
  • Identify and obtain project team resources.
  • Ensure project team members understand their respective responsibilities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field and 4-7 years relevant project management or related experience, OR High School Diploma and 6-9 years of relevant project management or related experience.
  • Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) or achieve CAPM within two years of job entry (PMP certification will fulfill this requirement).
  • Demonstrated and documented success at managing projects.
  • Strong independent judgment skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and time management skills.
  • Valid driver's license and access to an automobile.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PMP or CAPM certified.
  • Strict attention to detail, proven ability to review, analyze, and validate time and material-based contracts.
  • Deep-rooted knowledge of schedules and earned value management, critical path method (CPM), successor predecessor relationships.
  • Strong financial acumen: being able to cashflow a project throughout its lifecycle and monitor control financial vulnerability.
  • Full ownership of project budget experience, accountable for all aspects of project financials, authorization, forecasting, long range budgeting.
  • Strategic thinker to align project execution with broader organizational goals and long-term objectives.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities, along with the leadership qualities needed to guide cross-functional teams to meet or exceed project goals related to schedule, cost, and quality.
