Sr Project Manager- Mechanical
Provides leadership and oversight across all phases of complex, multi-million-dollar construction projects, from preconstruction and preplanning through construction and closeout. Takes full ownership of project schedule, budget, and overall performance while collaborating closely with field project managers, general contractors, owners, engineers, architects, subcontractors, and internal teams. Ensures projects are delivered safely, profitably, and to the highest quality standards, while maintaining strong relationships that support repeat business and long-term growth.
Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee all phases of assigned construction projects, from preconstruction and planning through execution, commissioning, and closeout.
- Take full ownership and accountability for project schedule, budget, profitability, cash flow, and overall performance.
- Manage project finances, including budgeting, cost control, profitability analysis, cash flow management, and monthly cost reporting with accurate cost projections.
- Review and approve labor, material, and subcontractor budgets to effectively allocate manpower, equipment, and materials throughout the project lifecycle.
- Identify, review, and manage change orders, including resubmittals, ensuring proper documentation, pricing, negotiation, and timely execution.
- Lead strategic planning efforts for project submittals, RFIs, and the change order process to maintain project momentum and mitigate risk.
- Negotiate, draft, and execute subcontractor agreements with external vendors to support project objectives and contractual requirements.
- Manage and coordinate subcontractors to ensure adherence to project schedules, budgets, safety standards, and quality expectations.
- Provide indirect leadership and guidance to construction crews, field personnel, and internal support services to drive project success.
- Directly oversee Project Engineers (PEs) and Assistant Project Managers (APMs), providing mentorship, direction, and performance feedback.
- Actively participate in design coordination meetings, conflict resolution, and constructability reviews across all trades to optimize project outcomes.
- Solve complex challenges related to scheduling, budgeting, resource constraints, and constructability as an active member of the project team.
- Approve supplier and subcontractor invoices in alignment with contract terms, project budgets, and cost control procedures.
- Maintain strong working relationships with general contractors, vendors, and suppliers to support repeat business and ongoing growth opportunities.
- Plan, identify, and manage CAD, fabrication, and field labor resources required to execute projects successfully and efficiently.
- Ensure compliance with all health and safety standards while maintaining a safe and clean working environment on job sites and in project offices.
- Enforce safety procedures, rules, and regulations and promptly report any safety issues or concerns.
- Demonstrate a strong understanding of construction methods, material procurement, and project management principles and apply them in daily operations.
- Utilize project management tools effectively, with preference for experience using Bluebeam and Procore to manage documentation, coordination, and communication.
- Train and support estimating staff on the technical aspects of project management, including constructability, sequencing, and resource planning.
- Understand company production and resource capabilities and apply them effectively in the construction process through daily coordination with Superintendents.
- Professionally solicit and coordinate with vendors and suppliers throughout the procurement process, including pricing, delivery schedules, and material approvals.
- Curate, organize, and maintain documents related to work orders, personnel, RFIs, submittals, and change management to ensure accurate project records.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with internal teams and external stakeholders, providing regular updates on project status, risks, and opportunities.
Requirements
- Extensive project management experience in construction, with demonstrated ability to lead large, multi-million-dollar, complex construction projects.
- Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university; or 10+ years of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Degree in Construction Management, Construction Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a similar discipline is highly preferred.
- Proven experience leading teams and managing projects, including direct responsibility for Project Engineers and/or Assistant Project Managers.
- Strong background in construction management, including scheduling, estimation, RFIs, submittals, and change order management.
- Solid mechanical knowledge with a strong understanding of construction operations, methods, and material procurement.
- Demonstrated ability to manage project budgets, profitability, cash flow, and monthly cost reporting with accurate cost projections.
- Experience coordinating and managing subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers to meet schedule, budget, and quality goals.
- Proficiency with project management tools; experience with Bluebeam and Procore is preferred.
- Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse project stakeholders.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to curate and maintain project documentation related to work orders, personnel, RFIs, submittals, and change orders.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced construction office environment while managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Reliable, dependable, and consistently available to support project needs and respond to issues in a timely manner.
- Aptitude and willingness to learn new systems, tools, and processes as the organization and projects evolve.
Qualifications
- Construction Management, Construction Science, Mechanical Engineering, or similar technical degree is highly preferred.
- Experience leading large multi-million-dollar complex construction projects across multiple phases of work.
- Background in mechanical construction or projects with significant mechanical systems is beneficial.
- Experience training and mentoring estimating staff and junior project team members on technical aspects of project management.
- Proven ability to participate in design coordination, conflict resolution, and constructability reviews across multiple trades.
- Experience negotiating, drafting, and executing subcontractor agreements and managing contractual obligations.
- Familiarity with CAD, fabrication processes, and coordination of field labor resources.
- Track record of maintaining strong working relationships with general contractors, owners, engineers, architects, and vendors.
- Demonstrated capability to solve complex project challenges related to scheduling, budgeting, and resource constraints.
Work Environment
This role operates primarily in a fast-paced construction office environment with regular interaction with field personnel, superintendents, subcontractors, and external partners. The Sr Project Manager works across both office and project site settings, engaging in design coordination meetings, constructability reviews, and on-site inspections to ensure safety, quality, and schedule adherence. The position relies heavily on project management technologies and tools, including Bluebeam, Procore, CAD resources, and standard office software, to manage documentation, communication, and coordination. Work involves managing multiple concurrent priorities, responding quickly to project needs, and maintaining a strong safety culture across all project locations.
Pay
$160,000.00 - $200,000.00 per year
