Sr Project Engineer (E&C) (1017) - Transit Facilities

About the role

The Senior Project Engineer for Transit Facilities will support Transit Facilities Capital design and construction projects and other projects as assigned. This position manages aspects of various projects to ensure project planning, design, implementation, and completion meet SEPTA’s requirements and the needs of agencies, governments, special interest groups, and the public. The role involves planning, developing, coordinating, and directing elements of large or complex projects and requires effective communication with higher organizational levels both within SEPTA and externally.

Responsibilities

• Consult with Project Manager in project definition (scope and objectives) and determination of project feasibility.
• Prepare budgets, schedules, program and force account plans for proposed projects.
• Prepare Requests for Proposals, manage consultant contracts, and coordinate design concepts and reviews with Operations departments.
• Represent the Authority with special interest groups and/or local communities; present designs at public meetings.
• Assist Project Manager during the procurement and/or construction stage, including project management, construction management, and coordination with governmental agencies and SEPTA’s Operating departments.
• Direct Project Engineers/Architects and manage project resources, budget, and schedules.
• Supervise, coordinate, and review the work of a small team of engineers and construction inspectors; estimate manpower needs and assign work to meet schedules.
• Consult with supervisors concerning unusual problems, developments, contractual, and policy matters.
• Train Project Engineers/Architects in project management duties and Senior Construction Inspectors and Senior Field Engineers in project supervision.
• Make independent decisions regarding engineering problems and construction methods.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science Degree in a relevant engineering field (e.g., Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Environmental) or Bachelor of Architecture.
• Seven (7) years of proven relevant engineering experience.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate effectively with all levels of personnel, including outside agency personnel.
• Understanding of construction project management techniques.
• Willingness to work evenings and nights as required for meetings and project work.
• Valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in CAD preferred.
• Familiarity with various types of engineering software preferred.
• Master's degree or PMP certification preferred.
• Additional $5,000 salary increase for those with a PE/RA License.

Pay

Starting salary up to $116,428 annually.
