Sr Project Controls Analyst

As a Sr. Project Controls Analyst with APTIM, you will work on project teams using expertise in forecasting, change management, cost management, project budget analysis, earned value analysis, risk management, proposal support, estimate development, cash flow, and other financial reporting tools. You will lead the development of data structures and reporting tools for large and complex projects utilizing advanced Excel and Power BI knowledge, and present to all levels of management. Additionally, you will work directly in CPM Schedule software (Primavera) to create, update, and analyze project schedules. This position primarily supports Remediation and Technical Services contracts for the Department of Defense and the EPA, including CERCLA Superfund remediation and laboratory/sampling support. Prior experience with federal government contracting is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform tasks associated with both Cost Management/Control and CPM Scheduling, including leadership in Risk/Contingency Management and Earned Value Management.
• Develop expert-level proficiency with Microsoft Excel/Power BI data management techniques.
• Lead, mentor, or perform the following tasks:
  • Daily, weekly, and monthly statusing of project cost reports as required by contract.
  • Periodic project job site audits and surveillances.
  • Reconciliation of budget vs. actual variances and identification of drivers.
  • Support/production of client invoicing per the contract.
  • Monthly cash and billing forecasts reporting.
  • Use of Microsoft Power BI to create graphical dashboards for management presentations or project-specific data management.
  • Provide professional recommendations and/or implementation of corrective actions.
  • Manage financial aspects at the program level.
  • Perform independent assessments of project processes and work products.
  • Manage and consolidate joint venture financial data.
  • Update schedules for accurate progress measurement and remaining duration using earned value tracking system data.
  • Resource load schedules.
  • Input and document scope change activities into the schedule.
  • Transform project estimating budget data into the cost breakdown structure and initiate cost reporting tools/reports.
  • Prepare, process, and track change orders to ensure cost report budgets are current.
  • Analyze and forecast key cost categories by cost code.
  • Manage Earned Value data, CPM schedule data, and risk/contingency data to develop a holistic picture of project performance.
  • Perform monthly accrual of project costs and revenue for accrual method accounting and forecast development.
  • Develop and present cost status and forecast reports to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Facilitate/lead risk workshops, manage the Risk Register, identify potential project risks, and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Coordinate with project managers and team members to ensure accurate and timely reporting of project status and performance metrics.
  • Establish and maintain project documentation and records, ensuring compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Negotiate contracts and agreements with vendors, subcontractors, and external parties to secure periodic reporting data for cost status and forecasting.
  • Interface directly in CPM schedule software to extract data, perform routine updating/progressing tasks, and create basic project schedules.

Requirements

• Demonstrated ability to use technical concepts and industry-standard project management tools to coordinate project control activities and solve complex problems.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
• AACE and/or PMI Certification.
• Understanding of basic grammar/concepts across multiple professional disciplines to work across siloed teams and solve complex interrelated problems.
• Ability to visualize and articulate solutions across discipline teams and lead them to successful implementation.
• Willingness and confidence to lead and mentor junior staff.
• Understanding of various contract structures (Fixed Price, Unit Price, Cost Reimbursable) and their implications on project cost and revenue.
• Understanding of fundamental concepts of accrual basis and double-entry accounting.
• Familiarity with government contract reporting and FAR standards.
• Familiarity with Davis Bacon/Service Contract Act and prevailing wages.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
• Familiarity with Power BI for data extraction and dashboard creation.
• Proficiency in JD Edwards or other ERP systems.
• Proficiency in Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project CPM scheduling software.
• Ability to communicate and interpret project cost data to executive leadership and senior external stakeholders.

Pay

As of the date of this posting, the pay range for this position is $112,000 - $186,000 per year. Compensation depends on experience, education, key skills, geographic location, client requirements, external market competitiveness, and internal equity.

Schedule

This position is based in the San Diego, CA or Denver, CO office. Periodic travel to project sites may be required.
