About the Role

This is a hybrid (virtual/onsite) position with required onsite days on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. The role may be assigned to any Consumers Energy Service Center in Michigan's Lower Peninsula. The selected candidate must be within a commutable distance or willing to relocate (a relocation package is available for those who qualify).

The Senior Program Engineer oversees the engineering and technical disciplines required to successfully deliver projects. This includes planning projects, establishing criteria, coordinating reviews, and ensuring effective implementation from concept through completion.

Responsibilities

  • Support Agile project delivery by balancing team performance with tight deadlines.
  • Develop specifications for required project equipment.
  • Monitor compliance with applicable codes, standards, QA/QC policies, and performance requirements.
  • Review engineering deliverables and initiate corrective actions as needed.
  • Provide technical assistance and support to project managers and stakeholders.
  • Prepare, schedule, coordinate, and monitor assigned engineering projects.
  • Assign responsibilities and mentor project team members.
  • Build strong partnerships with business stakeholders and align with their objectives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited program with four or more years of experience in a program engineer capacity, or a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from a non-ABET-accredited program plus a Professional Engineering license with four or more years of experience.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in design and visualization software (e.g., AutoCAD).
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office and ability to learn new software quickly.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Solid understanding of GD&T principles.
  • Familiarity with applicable rules, regulations, best practices, and performance standards.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Fundamental understanding of engineering and construction contracts, including technical documentation for bid and construction packages.
  • Experience overseeing internal and external engineering resources to produce construction documents for modifications to electric generating plants.
  • Background as a consulting design engineer with a regional or national firm, with moderate knowledge in civil, structural, or geotechnical design and construction.
  • Experience developing detailed scopes of work for external engineering firms and managing their progress and deliverables.
  • Highly organized, self-motivated, and capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously with strong communication and time management skills.
  • Experience overseeing engineering consultants (sub-consultants) and negotiating scope, schedule, and budget.
  • General knowledge of traditional power plant systems and renewable energy systems (preferred but not required).
