Sr. Professional Engineer - Infrastructure Plan Review

About the role

This Sr. Professional Engineer position leads, coordinates, and oversees the engineering review and approval of developer‑driven civil infrastructure projects for the City of Fort Worth’s Development Services Department in the Infrastructure Plan Review Center (IPRC). The role provides specialized engineering expertise throughout design and construction phases and may include supervisory duties over professional engineering staff.

Responsibilities

• Manage public infrastructure plan reviews for private developments to ensure 100% compliance with city, state, and federal requirements.
• Deliver comprehensive technical guidance to development teams to resolve design conflicts and uphold engineering standards.
• Oversee and coordinate the full project lifecycle for public infrastructure within private developments, managing cross-functional resources and timelines from initial design through final construction.
• Facilitate end-to-end IPRC Plan Reviews, acting as the central point of contact for developers, consultants, and regulatory bodies (e.g., TxDOT, Railroads).
• Drive project momentum through proactive stakeholder engagement and expert navigation of municipal and federal compliance standards.
• Analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) to evaluate the quality and responsiveness of the development review process, identifying bottlenecks and implementing data-backed improvements.
• Drive continuous improvement by developing new Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and refining existing goals to enhance service delivery and regulatory compliance.
• Assume leadership for staff, overseeing complex workflows and resource allocation while providing the technical oversight necessary to achieve departmental objectives.
• Cross-train to provide continuity of leadership by fulfilling the Engineering Manager’s duties during vacations, ensuring no disruption to project timelines or departmental goals.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in civil engineering or a related field.
• Three (3) years of professional civil engineering experience as a registered professional engineer, of which two (2) years must be within or related to the area of assigned responsibility.
• Possession of registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Texas. If licensed in another state, continued employment will be contingent upon obtaining Texas registration within six (6) months of employment.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid Texas driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications

• Project management experience.
• Experience with Bluebeam, Accela or other similar project management software.
• Municipal government experience.

Pay

$110,000 – $118,000 annual compensation.

Schedule

Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm; some evening and weekend work required. After six months, eligible for two days of remote work each week or a hybrid schedule subject to business needs and department approval.
