About the role

As the Sr. Product Manager for Gaia GPS, you’ll own the vision, strategy, and roadmap for one of our premier mapping properties. You will also be a key leader as we think through a better product architecture and collection, partnering with the leadership for Trailforks and MapMy. You’ll collaborate with engineering, marketing, editorial, studios (Watch/Video), and product design to bring amazing mapping experiences to life and work with cross-functional partners across Outside to learn, iterate, and shape the direction of Gaia over time.

Responsibilities

  • Own the vision, strategy, and roadmap for Gaia GPS’ mapping properties and ensure that it aligns with the overall product and company vision of inspiring people to get outside.
  • Help guide the vision of our mapping platform so that we can build amazing social, planning, and scalable services that bring Outside Mapping into the future.
  • Partner with the Trailforks founder and product leadership as we build the world’s best mapping platform.
  • Build relationships with the goal of developing re-usable architecture and features that will help Gaia, Trailforks, and MapMy continue to grow but that also allows re-use across the various teams.
  • Deeply understand customer needs, and be the champion and voice of Outside’s users.
  • Write product briefs and user stories, and collaborate with your partners in marketing, engineering, and design to ship features that we are proud of and that our members love.
  • Make tough tactical prioritization decisions, balancing short-term needs with long-term product direction for our brands.
  • Define and own the metrics of success. Evangelize those metrics throughout the company, and use them to drive insights and new product hypotheses.
  • Collaborate with external and internal stakeholders to effectively build, launch, and communicate new product features.
  • Discover and validate new product opportunities for Outside. Help us achieve our vision and execute our strategy by uncovering and developing new ideas for our brands.
  • Provide strong mentorship, guidance, and leadership to junior team members, fostering their professional growth and development while ensuring a collaborative and high-performing work environment.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of product management experience, working on consumer applications where you’ve demonstrated your ability to discover, define, and deliver products.
  • A profound background in user-facing applications with a significant portion of your career dedicated to taking products from inception to deployment and measuring their impact.
  • Experience in owning the P&L for specific business units.
  • Ability to work with highly passionate people, including co-founders who are still managing their businesses, to help them understand your vision and approach and get buy-in.
  • Experience with customer research and know how to get feedback at the right time from the right customers to help inform your product decisions.
  • Demonstrated experience collaborating closely with product designers and engineers to ship high-quality products that delight users.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and analytical skills.
  • Experience with modern software development and delivery practices.
  • Entrepreneurial-minded and thrive in a fast-paced environment. You handle uncertainty with confidence. You are execution-focused and driven to ship great products to customers.

Skills

  • A systematic approach to designing customer-facing features focused on user experience, leveraging your expertise to enhance user engagement, monetization strategies, and overall customer satisfaction.
  • Hands-on experience with OpenStreetMap, ESRI, or consumer/enterprise mapping applications. Hands-on experience solving and understanding complex geospatial challenges.
  • Knowledge of at least one programming language.
  • Experience with platform unification projects or knowledge of how to continue building an application while making long-term strategic investments.
  • Ability to write SQL queries or knowledge of comparable business analytics tools.
  • A solid background in working with geographic content, including maps, trails, map layers, and mapping products.
  • Experience with products where maps play a crucial role in delivering an exceptional user experience, particularly in the context of outdoor adventure.
  • Expertise in seamlessly integrating video, audio, and written content to craft captivating and immersive experiences that cater to a diverse readership/membership base.

Pay

Employees can expect to be paid a salary between $130,000 to $180,000. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission. The salary range displayed is specifically for those potential hires who will work or reside in the state of Colorado if selected for this role, and may vary based on market data/ranges, an applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors.

Schedule

This is a remote position, with the option to be located in Boulder, Colorado.
