Sr Principal Software Engineer (L7 Security - Data Path)

About the role

The Layer-7 Security Software team at Palo Alto Networks is responsible for developing critical features in our PANOS releases. Our team works on the Application Identification and Content Inspection Engine, which runs on various platforms including hardware, virtualized, container, and cloud-delivered firewalls. We also develop innovative security features such as machine learning-powered NGFW, credential phishing prevention, URL filtering, and cloud-delivered data leak protection.

Responsibilities

• Innovate, design, develop, and improve the Next-Generation Firewall in terms of functionality and performance, focusing on device identity solutions.
• Own and be responsible for critical components in the Next-Generation Firewall system.
• Deliver features and improvements in critical components in high quality and performance.
• Work closely with team members and cross-functional teams to design and architect innovative solutions.

Qualifications

• Proficient in C programming under Linux development environment.
• Additionally, experience with Go and Python is preferred.
• Experience with multi-threaded programming and large-scale, distributed, and/or high-performance software design and architecture.
• Experience with TCP/IP networking software development.
• Experience with Redis or NoSQL database preferred.
• Demonstrated willingness and ability to leverage AI to maximize productivity and operational efficiency.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience, with at least 7 years of relevant industry experience.
• Preferred graduate degree (MS or Ph.D.) in Computer Science or a related technical discipline, or equivalent military experience.

Benefits

Palo Alto Networks offers a competitive compensation package, including a range of $170,000.00 - $277,000.00/yr, based on qualifications, experience, and work location. Pay

The compensation offered for this position will depend on qualifications, experience, and work location. For candidates who receive an offer at the posted level, the starting base salary (for non-sales roles) or base salary + commission target (for sales/commissioned roles) is expected to be the annual range listed below.
