About the Role

Northrop Grumman’s Aeronautics Systems sector is seeking a Sr. Principal Flight Avionics Responsible Engineer to join our team in Melbourne, FL. This onsite position involves defining the future of avionics integration for aircraft flight deck systems. The role focuses on developing and executing programs, supporting avionics integration, and leading technical efforts in a collaborative environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide avionics integration engineering support for aircraft flight deck systems and components, including Flight Management Systems (FMS), Flight Management Computers (FMCs), Primary Flight Displays (PFDs), Terrain Avoidance and Warning Systems (TAWS), Crew Alerting System (CAS), Moving Maps, and other avionics systems.
  • Lead in the preparation and verification of aircraft avionics and Prime Mission Equipment installations, as well as aircraft certification documents.
  • Serve as an expert for Avionics Flight Management Integration, providing critical skills and industry knowledge to internal and external teams.
  • Lead the development of system safety documents and the integration of flight deck systems with mission systems.
  • Create aircraft system schematics to support air vehicle wiring diagrams.
  • Develop and analyze requirements, conduct trade studies, and manage suppliers, including review and analysis of supplier design data.
  • Define functional test requirements, including acceptance, qualification, and system integration, and support test execution.
  • Conduct informal and formal testing of subsystem requirements in a lab environment, troubleshoot hardware, and support flight test activities.
  • Perform post-flight data analysis and resolve flight test anomalies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university and 8 years of related professional/military experience in Engineering; or
  • Master’s degree in a STEM discipline from an accredited university and 6 years of related professional/military experience in Engineering; or
  • Ph.D. and 4 years of related professional/military experience in Engineering.
  • Active DoD Secret Clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance.
  • Experience with MIL-STD-1553, ARINC 429, and Ethernet communication protocols.
  • Experience with supplier management of avionics equipment.
  • Experience with at least one of the following flight certification standards: PBN, RNAV, RNP, CNS/ATM, DO-178/254/200/160.
  • Experience with system modeling and requirements management tools (e.g., Cameo, DOORS, Rhapsody), developing/maturing requirements, and tracing requirements through various levels.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Communication, Navigation, Surveillance/Air Traffic Management (CNS/ATM) experience.
  • Performance Based Navigation (PBN) experience and attaining PBN certification.
  • Required Navigation Performance (RNP)/Area Navigation (RNAV) certification experience.
  • Experience designing to RTCA DO-254 hardware standard for airborne electronic systems.
  • Experience designing to RTCA DO-200 standard for processing aeronautical data.
  • Experience designing to RTCA DO-160 and MIL-STD-810 standards for environmental qualifications.
  • Experience with Earned Value Management.
  • Experience with Confluence and Jira.

Pay

Primary level salary range: $122,800.00 – $184,200.00. The final offer considers factors such as the scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s experience, education, skills, and current market conditions. Eligible employees may receive overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses reward individual contributions and company results. Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
