Sr PM - Major Construction

About the role

The Senior Project Manager is the single point of accountability for the successful delivery of complex substation construction projects across Connecticut. This role owns safety, cost, schedule, contractor performance, outage coordination, and energization through execution in live brownfield environments.

Skills/Abilities

• Demonstrated ability to lead complex utility or infrastructure projects, including substation projects, through engineering development, construction execution, and energization, with full accountability for outcomes.
• Strong judgment and decision-making skills in managing competing priorities, incomplete information, and schedule or cost risk in live/brownfield environments.
• Prominent capability to oversee engineering teams and consultants, ensuring designs are constructible, coordinated, and aligned with execution and outage requirements.
• Ability to oversee Construction Managers and Field Construction Managers responsible for day-to-day field activities, while maintaining accountability for safety, schedule, quality, and contractor performance.
• Strong financial and schedule management skills, including capital forecasting, CWIP management, cost controls, risk mitigation, and recovery planning.
• Experienced in contractor management, contract execution, change management, and dispute resolution.
• Ability to clearly communicate project status, risks, and decisions to executive leadership, regulators, municipalities, and other external stakeholders.
• Proficient in the use of project controls, scheduling, and enterprise systems (e.g., Primavera or MS Project, SAP, Excel) to support project planning, capital and project forecasting, performance analysis, and executive-level reporting.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 12 years of relevant project management experience in utility, infrastructure, or complex construction environments is required.
• Substation PM construction experience is strongly preferred, including exposure to live or brownfield environments and projects delivered through energization.
• Candidates without direct substation experience may be considered if they demonstrate closely related and transferable experience.
• Proven experience overseeing engineering development, construction execution, contractor performance, cost and schedule controls, and risk mitigation on capital projects is required.
• Proven ability to manage contractors, resolve scope and execution disputes, and deliver projects safely, on time, and within budget.
• Project Management Professional Certification preferred.
