About the role

The Sr Planner, Transportation Planning at WSB leads multidisciplinary teams to deliver complex transportation planning projects, ensuring innovative solutions that move people and goods across diverse settings. This role drives business development, manages client relationships, and mentors early career staff, directly contributing to the company’s growth and reputation for excellence in infrastructure planning.

Responsibilities

  • Coverage of business development to secure new clients and projects
  • Retention and management of relationships with existing clients and external stakeholders
  • Response to Request for Proposals (RFPs) and building internal and external teams
  • Leadership of multidisciplinary teams on complex transportation planning projects, managing multiple projects and teams on time-sensitive schedules
  • Development of solutions for moving people and goods by various modes (car, bus, train, bicycle, foot) in rural, suburban, and urban contexts
  • Solving complex transportation problems using professional judgment, creativity, and innovation
  • Application of transportation methods, planning principles, and standard industry evaluations and analyses
  • Development and implementation of stakeholder, agency, and partner engagement and communication strategies
  • Preparation of deliverables such as reports, memos, technical analyses, engagement content, visions and goals, policies, implementation and phasing plans, and other client-identified items
  • Leadership or oversight of multidisciplinary teams in preparing grant applications and providing guidance on relevant funding resources for projects
  • Development of content and strategy for federal environmental documents for transportation projects, including preparation of purpose and need statements, developing and refining evaluating criteria, and conducting alternatives analyses
  • Mentorship and training of early career staff
  • Performance of other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in transportation, urban planning, civil engineering, or related field from an accredited program
  • At least 10 years of experience in multimodal transportation planning/urban design and/or federal environmental documentation
  • American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification and/or Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite Products (e.g. Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, OneDrive, etc)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in transportation, urban planning, civil engineering, or related field from an accredited program preferred
