We’re seeking a talented Sr. Piping Designer with a strong background in Plant 3D, fabrication, and refinery-related equipment to play a vital role in supporting high-profile projects in Houston.
Responsibilities
- Develop detailed shop support drawings, plot plans, piping layouts, and equipment drawings, including proprietary equipment, vessels, and structural components.
- Coordinate and review work of subcontracted designers and in-house team members, ensuring high-quality deliverables.
- Assist in defining drawing requirements, validating completed work, and supporting project and sales efforts.
- Develop comprehensive equipment drawings for design and fabrication, working closely with shop fabrication teams.
- Review client process technology documentation and ensure compliance with project standards.
- Conduct reviews of structural, vessel, and piping drawings from subcontractors and ensure alignment with customer specifications.
- Identify, develop, and implement exceptions and clarifications to customer documents in line with project standards.
- Assist in project estimating, change order development, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Draft, review, and approve AutoCAD and 3D modeling documents, ensuring accuracy and adherence to schedule.
- Support design management and uphold the company’s commitment to safety, quality, and environmental excellence.
Requirements
- Minimum 10 years of proven piping design experience including creating, reviewing, and revising piping drawings.
- Extensive experience with plant layout from schematic flow diagrams.
- Proficiency in 2-D AutoCAD, with a strong background in developing piping and vessel designs.
- At least 8 years of experience designing refinery-related vessels.
- Minimum 8 years of 3D modeling experience, familiar with Navisworks for model review.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex technical data.
- Ability to handle confidential information discreetly and exercise sound judgment.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- This position is based in Houston, TX.
Skills
- Proficiency in Plant 3D software (preferred).
- Experience with structural and instrumentation drawings (preferred).
- Familiarity with project estimation and change order processes (preferred).
- Additional knowledge of safety, health, and environmental standards relevant to refinery and plant settings (preferred).
- A technical degree or additional certifications in piping design, drafting, or related engineering fields are a plus.
Schedule
- Typical Monday–Friday schedule, 40 hours per week, with overtime as needed.
- Opportunities for subcontractor coordination and review.
- Ability to support the design team during absence and a willingness to engage in ongoing process improvements.
