Sr Physician Assistant, Trauma (Day Shift)
About the role
The position of Senior Physician Assistant in the Department of Surgery, requires a highly competent, independent yet team-oriented individual who will be immersed in the management and coordination of all inpatient care for the Trauma and Acute Care Surgery Service.
Responsibilities
- Assessing health needs, planning and evaluating care of all patients on the general surgery services as well as patients in the surgical intensive care unit.
- Participating with inpatient sign out at beginning and end of shift.
- Following up with the General Surgery teams/residents/attending physicians.
- Participating in trauma resuscitations and performing surgical consultations on potential general surgery patients.
- Responsible for care and organization of procedures (including scheduling operations, interventional procedures, etc), follow-up, obtaining consults as needed, and discharge patients (including discharge summary, instructions, and medications) when appropriate.
- Triage phone calls.
- Reviewing critical labs, follow-up of results with patient and medical staff, obtaining comprehensive medical histories, performing initial and periodic physical examinations/assessments, and exploring patient’s interpretation of health needs.
- Identifying and treating patients and managing treatment of hospitalized patients.
Requirements
- Ability to obtain UCIMC Allied Health Professional Privileges prior to hire.
- HIPPA and other training completion as required by Medical Center.
- Annual TB screening and any applicable test to meet JCAHO requirements.
- Current BLS, ACLS and PALS certification.
- Within six months of hire, ATLS certification.
Preferred
- Knowledge of Windows and MS Office software applications (Excel, Word, Quest, Access, Power point and Outlook).
- Bilingual in Spanish and/or Vietnamese.
- Familiarity with UC policies and procedures.
- Experience in Trauma/Critical Care.
