Sr Physician Assistant, Trauma (Day Shift)
About the role
The position of Senior Physician Assistant in the Department of Surgery, requires a highly competent, independent yet team-oriented individual who will be immersed in the management and coordination of all inpatient care for the Trauma and Acute Care Surgery Service.
Responsibilities
- Assessing health needs
- Planning and evaluating care of all patients on the general surgery services as well as patients in the surgical intensive care unit
- Participating with inpatient sign out at beginning and end of shift
- Following up with the General Surgery teams/residents/attending physicians
- Participating in trauma resuscitations and performing surgical consultations on potential general surgery patients
- Responsible for care and organization of procedures (including scheduling operations, interventional procedures, etc)
- Follows up with consults as needed, and discharging patients (including discharge summary, instructions, and medications) when appropriate
- Triage phone calls
- Reviewing critical labs, follow-up of results with patient and medical staff, obtaining comprehensive medical histories, performing initial and periodic physical examinations/assessments, and exploring patient's interpretation of health needs
- Demonstrating an advanced level of medical knowledge, clinical/technical competence, sound clinical judgment, professional communication skills, timely and compliant documentation, and is responsible for professional development and competency validation
- Participating in the comprehensive care of patients in the ambulatory or inpatient settings and providing multi-disciplinary care coordination, treatment, education, monitoring, and communication with patients and referring physicians
Requirements
- Ability to obtain UCIMC Allied Health Professional Privileges prior to hire
- HIPPA and other training completion as required by Medical Center
- Annual TB screening and any applicable test to meet JCAHO requirements
- Current BLS, ACLS and PALS certification
- Within six months of hire, ATLS certification
Preferred
- Knowledge of Windows and MS Office software applications (Excel, Word, Quest, Access, Power point and Outlook)
- Bilingual in Spanish and/or Vietnamese
- Familiarity with UC policies and procedures
- Experience in Trauma/Critical Care
