About the role

The growing Ann Arbor team is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer with experience in Printed Circuit Board Assembly (PCBA) Design to assist in developing product equipment, test centers, software, and AI algorithms that power KLA's innovative capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Developing high-speed PCBA-based product features on KLA products (analog, communications, digital signal processing, etc.) and support sophisticated projects to meet technology, performance, and schedule objectives.

  • This includes FPGA circuits, SERDES channels, and PCIe interfaces.

  • Solve challenging engineering problems by characterizing components and PCB stack-ups, designing/prototyping analog front-end circuits, generating schematics, directing PCB layout, and debugging PCBAs in the labs.

  • Define test criteria and implement those test plans on functional prototypes in the lab to prove the reliability/safety of the designed subsystem.

  • Propose and develop PCBA and subsystem qualification fixtures.

  • Modify and integrate the existing electrical and subsystem designs to achieve the desired functionality.

  • Collaborate with other groups to develop the PCBA solution to ensure a seamless integration test at the subsystem and/or system level.

  • Mentor, support, and assist junior electrical engineers.

Requirements

  • A strong background in high-speed design and technical project management.

  • An excellent communicator.

  • A standout colleague with the following skills:

    • 5+ years of relevant experience preferred as a Printed Circuit Board Assembly Design Engineer, especially with high-speed circuitry (FPGA, PCIe, SERDES).

    • Strong electrical engineering and physics fundamentals (analog, optoelectronics design, electromagnetic theory, etc.).

    • Able to write specifications and documentation needed to initiate a project, and documentation for product release.

    • Expertise in schematic entry (preferably OrCAD), and board layout (preferably Cadence Allegro).

    • Proficiency in lab environments such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, etc.

    • Ability to travel domestically and internationally based upon business needs.

  • Desired Experience:

    • Experience at 10 GHz+ designs on advanced substrate materials.

    • Proficiency in Spice and EM (electromagnetic) simulation.

    • Experience in Opto-electrical design.

    • Expertise with data analysis through MATLAB, Python, or other abstraction languages.

    • Firmware development experience.

  • Minimum Qualifications:

    • Doctorate (Academic) Degree and 0 years related work experience;

    • Master's Level Degree and related work experience of 3 years;
