About the role
The Senior Paralegal for the Government Investigations team provides advanced legal and operational support for government investigations, law enforcement inquiries, subpoenas, litigation matters, and third-party legal requests. This role partners closely with internal legal counsel, outside legal counsel, other paralegals, e-Discovery teams, business stakeholders, and government agencies to manage complex investigations, coordinate document preservation, collection, and production efforts, interview witnesses, and support witness preparation and trial-related activities.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate and support responses to government subpoenas and investigations in partnership with internal and external legal counsel.
- Schedule, attend, and manage recurring investigation and case strategy meetings.
- Support witness and employee interviews and track follow-up actions.
- Administer legal hold processes, including identifying custodians and coordinating preservation activities.
- Initiate and manage custodian email and document collection requests.
- Conduct follow-up outreach to employees and stakeholders to gather relevant information and documentation.
- Prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment.
- Partner with e-Discovery teams to collect, organize, and upload documents into review platforms such as Relativity.
- Track investigative requests and respond to ongoing information needs from outside legal counsel.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for law enforcement agencies regarding investigative requests and subpoenas.
- Confirm the validity and scope of requests and obtain required subpoenas or confidentiality acknowledgements.
- Collaborate with technical, engineering, field, and support teams to obtain device data, system records, analyses, and other relevant information.
- Coordinate response efforts and ensure timely delivery of requested materials.
- Maintain an organized and up-to-date electronic filing system.
- Review and triage incoming subpoenas, records requests, and legal inquiries.
- Absorb and analyze requests, determine appropriate response strategies, including objections, extensions, confidentiality protections, or outside counsel involvement.
- Coordinate document collection efforts with e-Discovery teams and external vendors.
- Manage legal matter intake and case administration processes.
- Draft and send correspondence to requestors and legal representatives.
- Review collected documents for responsiveness, confidentiality, and privilege considerations.
- Prepare and oversee document productions.
- Ensure confidentiality agreements and protective measures are in place prior to releasing sensitive information.
- Partner with internal and external stakeholders to manage document preservation, collection, review, and production activities.
- Coordinate across e-Discovery, forensics, records management, and legal teams throughout the lifecycle of investigations and litigation matters.
- Maintain accurate case documentation, status tracking, and reporting.
- Support trial preparation activities, including preparing fact witnesses and coordinating with prosecutors, defense counsel, and internal legal stakeholders.
- Support continuous improvement of legal operations, records management, and investigation processes.
Requirements
- MUST HAVE: Minimum requirements include a Bachelor’s degree OR a paralegal certification and minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 2 years relevant experience.
- Preferred: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Demonstrable knowledge of the investigation process.
- Significant experience supporting investigations, subpoenas, litigation, or regulatory matters.
- Experience managing legal holds, document preservation, document collection, and document production processes.
- Strong understanding of civil, criminal, and regulatory subpoena response procedures.
- Experience working directly with outside counsel, law enforcement agencies, and internal business partners.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to assess legal requests and determine appropriate actions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong project management and organizational abilities with attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a dynamic environment.
- Experience with e-Discovery platforms, including Relativity.
- Experience supporting healthcare, medical device, regulatory, or other highly regulated industries.
- Experience coordinating trial preparation and fact witness support.
- Knowledge of records management, information governance, and document retention practices.
- Familiarity with SharePoint, Microsoft applications, and enterprise document management systems.
