Responsibilities
- Imparts the philosophy, values, mission, and vision of Navitus and SSM Health and facilitates the integration of values in Continuous Quality Improvement (“CQI”) activities
- Independently performs and manages matter intake and administration through resolution, legal research, reviewing and identifying issues in legal matters, resolving questions submitted from business units, interpreting and implementing applicable policies and procedures, and working closely and directly with various business units and counsel in bringing matters to resolution
- Conducts legal search on relevant current and emerging laws, statutes and regulations, prepares memorandums of the findings, and create action plans where necessary to mitigate risks
- Prepares legal documents, such as contracts and correspondence, for review, approval, and use by the attorneys
- Filings legal documents and correspondence in digital and physical filing systems
- Ensures effective indexing and filing of legal documents
- Researches and analyzes statutes, judicial decisions, legal articles, contracts, and legal codes
- Supports attorneys by communicating and obtaining information, following-up on delegated assignments and knowing when to act and when to refer matters to the attorney. Performs other clerical duties such as scheduling appointments, providing information to internal and external stakeholders, taking notes, writing, typing routine correspondence, and reading and triaging incoming mail
- Identifies, reviews, and tracks legislative and regulatory environment changes impacting Navitus and its affiliates
- Provides support and guidance related to the interpretation of applicable rules and regulations
- Conducts and participates in the training, coaching, and mentoring of the paralegal team members on the use of Navitus systems, tools, and techniques
- Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- A high school diploma or GED is required
- A paralegal educational certificate is preferred
- 5+ years of relevant corporate paralegal experience with a governmental agency, law firm and/or in-house legal department are required
- Ability to type with speed and accuracy is required
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, Teams, and Adobe Acrobat is required
- The ability to consistently interact cooperatively and respectfully with other employees
