About the role
The Sr. OSP Engineering Technician in Utilities is responsible for all aspects of OSP design including office design, field design, drawing markup, permitting, quality control, and quantity takeoffs and constructions specification development for various telecommunications projects.
Responsibilities
- Works under limited direction from the project manager to produce OSP designs consistent with industry and client standard for fiber to the home (FTTx/h) projects
- Provides quality control for designs completed by others
- Uses advanced knowledge to interpret a variety of information to produce designs including right of way maps, existing utility drawings, public infrastructure design plans, construction specifications and other design guidelines
- Determines the locations for cable or conduit installations considering all existing surface and/or subsurface improvements and constructability issues
- Determines splice locations, manhole locations and/or marker pole placements
- Interprets permit agency requirements and incorporates them into project designs
- Interprets and implements client OSP standards during project design
- Provides direction to technical staff during drawing production and other Technicians in their work
- Utilizes electronic data collection technology as appropriate
- Uses knowledge to work independently. However, uses good judgment in seeking help/answers to questions from project supervisor when necessary
- Shows continued and progressive professional development inside and outside of BHC
- Demonstrates a client focus and works to help our clients be successful
Requirements
- Experience: 3+ years of industry related experience preferred
- Understanding of fiber optic cabling and splicing
- Must be technically proficient with outside plant, public works and site development projects
- Knowledge of construction techniques is required
- Knowledgeable of directional bore layout and bridge attachment design
- Must be able to propose locations for buried telecommunications utilities considering all existing surface and/or subsurface improvements
- Must be able to record information accurately and have knowledge of interpreting utility drawings, public works improvement drawings and construction specifications

- Ability to produce error free drawings without sacrificing production volume
- Excellent communication skills, team player, detail oriented, motivated
- Able to manage a fair workload by staying focused and managing priorities
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
