About the role

We are seeking an experienced Sr Operations Analyst to join our team in Houston, Texas. The ideal candidate will be independent, proactive, and eager to contribute to a dynamic organization. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to oversee day-to-day workflow activities, manage medium to complex exception handling, and ensure adherence to service level agreements. The Analyst will specialize in assigned business function areas, becoming a subject matter expert while supporting evolving business requirements. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in the deregulated retail electricity sector, particularly those with a strong emphasis on analytics. This is an onsite role, and the ideal candidate will be within commutable distance to the Houston office.

Responsibilities

  • Apply sound judgment and analytical skills to investigate discrepancies in work processes, collaborating with subject matter experts to resolve issues.
  • Develop and implement controls and reporting, starting with non-standard and manual pilots, then automating and documenting successful processes.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams to analyze and adjust processes for accuracy and efficiency.
  • Establish controls to bridge identified gaps across business units.
  • Assist in gathering requirements and QA testing for new development projects aimed at improving billing, customer experience, and reporting.
  • Conduct ad hoc analysis to support data-driven decision-making.
  • Manage and adhere to compliance protocols as outlined by the Public Utility Commissions.
  • Assist with project planning, testing, and implementation of automated processes for data and analysis.
  • Adhere to Retail Market Guide protocols as set forth by ERCOT.
  • Lead efforts to understand potential gaps in current processes when changes or proposed regulations occur, and formulate solutions to comply.
  • Deliver on key performance indicators (KPIs) to achieve operational excellence.
  • Provide cross-functional support to peers and departments to develop best-in-class end-to-end delivery processes.
  • Perform other ad hoc analysis and duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in Retail Operations across multiple energy markets, including ERCOT, NYISO, and PJM.
  • Experience in the retail energy market is required.
  • Ability to acquire and scrutinize data with minimal supervision, analyze scenarios, and recommend courses of action or remediation.
  • Advanced proficiency with Excel and other MS Office Suite tools.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or a related field, or 5 years of directly relevant experience in Retail Operations in lieu of a degree.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to prioritize responsibilities and meet critical deadlines accurately.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal oversight in a highly dynamic atmosphere.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to interface effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite; advanced Excel (VBA/Access/SQL a bonus but not required).
  • Eligible to work for any US employer without the need for current or future sponsorship.

Pay

$80,000 - $115,000 salary
