Responsibilities

  • Investigate coverage, liability, compensability, and damages with all parties involved in a claim as requested by our customers, Crawford and Company, or a subsidiary.
  • Investigate claims by interviewing claimants and witnesses, establishing claim reserves, handling evidence, obtaining and interpreting medical reports, official reports, and claim forms, managing litigation, and attending or participating in mediation, trials, or hearings.
  • Negotiate and settle claims within client service parameters and authority levels by obtaining demands and making offers to claimants.
  • Present evidence at legal proceedings, producing reports and other documents as evidence.
  • Provide filings with regulatory agencies, dispose of salvage, and pursue subrogation when appropriate.
  • Prepare reports by collecting and summarizing information required by the client and obtained through investigation.
  • Work independently or collaboratively as a self-starter.
  • Maintain company reputation and insurance product integrity by complying with federal and state regulations, client, and Crawford and Company service standards.
  • Assist and mentor less experienced adjusters with claims handling, including light supervisory responsibilities.
  • Maintain expected caseloads in multiple lines of business while meeting established service delivery, production, quality, sales, and educational objectives.
  • Work on-call during off-hours to respond to emergency on-site investigations as required.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge through continuing education in multiple lines of business.
  • Maintain acceptable product quality through compliance with service standards and internal quality control initiatives.
  • Conduct occasional sales calls by meeting with local industry-related companies or adjusters to develop new business and maintain existing business.
  • Uphold and project the corporate image by participating in industry organizations and functions.
  • Multitask in a time-sensitive environment and handle job responsibilities with a sense of urgency.
  • Uphold the Crawford Code of Business Conduct at all times.
  • Participate in special projects or perform duties in other areas as requested.

Requirements

  • College degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Preferred: 2 years of experience in each of at least 2 lines of business handling complex claims; prior multi-line experience required.
  • Personal computer, typing, and keyboarding skills.
  • Demonstrated technical knowledge of complex commercial policy coverage investigation, liability evaluation, determination of damages, or compensability investigations in multiple lines of business.
  • Familiarity with legal and medical terminology within specific business lines.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good analytical ability and mathematical aptitude.
  • Attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to gather and analyze information, then determine and implement the appropriate course of action.
  • Good interpersonal and sales skills.
  • Licensing as required by state and local jurisdictions.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Additional continuing education as required by Crawford Educational Services and as applicable for jurisdictions in which claims are adjusted or investigated.
  • Variable schedule, including on-call, may be required; may need to work beyond normal business hours depending on caseload.
  • Travel may be required during or outside of normal business hours when necessary.
