Sr Mechanical Engineer

About the role

The Senior Mechanical Engineer provides engineering support for existing and new theme park attractions (rides and shows). This includes complex downtime investigation, troubleshooting, reverse engineering, and redesign to ensure daily operational readiness. The role also involves re-design and development of mechanical and structural systems for increased reliability and operational improvements, along with basic management of outsourcing services, third-party consulting, contracts, and scheduling. Work must conform to ASTM F24 Committee guidelines and comply with applicable codes and standards, including AISC, ASME, ASTM, ANSI, AWS, JIC, NEC, and OSHA.

This is a full-time, onsite role with a 5-day workweek. Offsite work may be allowed with prior approval, and occasional nights or weekends may be required as needed.

Responsibilities

• Respond to day-to-day sustaining engineering calls and troubleshoot recurring design or maintenance issues.
• Perform re-engineering efforts for attractions, including complex mechanical, structural, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
• Produce scope of work for capital design projects and manage progress from design through installation.
• Develop and oversee project schedules and budgetary demands.
• Monitor and interface with vendors/design-builders to resolve problems and design issues.
• Prepare and review equipment specifications and perform technical evaluations of vendor products/services.
• Oversee mock-up, prototype, installations, test, and adjustments of show and ride systems.
• Coordinate engineering activities between vendors, engineers, ride and show management, and technicians.
• Provide project status updates to ride managers and engineering managers.
• Interface between Central Shops and the Mechanical Engineering group to address engineering needs.
• Improve existing engineering procedures and develop new procedures as needed.
• Mentor associate-level engineers.
• Maintain configuration management of project documentation in accordance with Engineering’s guidelines.
• Develop and conduct Acceptance Test Procedures (ATPs) on mechanical systems and review other engineers’ ATPs.
• Partner with Universal Creative in the development of new attractions, including design reviews, on-site installation, and testing.
• Review Engineering Change Notice (ECN) forms for accuracy and compliance with internal and external regulations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering required; Master’s degree preferred.
• Minimum 7 years of mechanical/structural detailed design experience with dynamic motion systems/components.
• Minimum 3 years of project engineering experience in mechanical/structural systems in a large machine environment.
• Proficiency in engineering calculations for design, test, and implementation of mechanical systems.
• Background in design of welded structures, beam elements, welded joints, structural steels, gearing, composite materials, manufacturing, and fabrication processes.
• Proficiency in hydraulic and pneumatic design and familiarity with components.
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting capabilities for mechanical and structural systems.
• Proficiency in mechanical drawings, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and technical documents.
• Experience generating component and mechanical system specifications, acceptance test procedures, failure and effects analysis, scopes of work, installation procedures, training procedures, and technical/maintenance manuals.
• Strong knowledge of servo controls for hydraulic, pneumatic, and electromotive motion control systems.
• Knowledge of AWS, ANSI, and ASTM (especially F24) standards.
• Experience in the design of safety-critical systems.
• Ability and willingness to work overtime, weekends, and holidays with short notice.

Pay

Salary range: $125,000 - $155,000
