About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Engineering department within the Flex Air division in Fenton, MI. Flex Air is a leading designer and manufacturer of custom industrial mechanical and electrical modular buildings and high-performance HVAC systems. The role involves reviewing project specifications, designing solutions for commercial and industrial HVAC, hydronic plants, and electrical power distribution projects, and providing engineering support for installation, testing, and repair.

Responsibilities

  • Lead design of mechanical systems and equipment across various industrial applications through all phases of design and construction.
  • Evaluate products and components to ensure function and performance by conducting research and applying experience.
  • Create, modify, and review 2D and 3D CAD data, product documents, and bills of material to confirm products meet customer design requirements.
  • Assure product quality and function by developing and renewing engineering best practices and SOPs.
  • Work cross-functionally across sales, operations, and quality departments to ensure product designs satisfy requirements of all key stakeholders.
  • Support project management with project schedule and requirement coordination.
  • Evaluate raw material processing equipment and recommend purchase of capital equipment to improve production efficiency.
  • Ensure all legal and regulated obligations (e.g., OSHA, building codes) from an engineering and design standpoint comply with federal, state, or local laws and regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • At least seven (7) years of concurrent Mechanical Engineering experience or similar market experience.
  • Fundamental knowledge of mechanical systems, hydronics, HVAC, and construction industries.
  • Manufacturing knowledge of structural steel, welding, and sheet metal design.
  • Proficiency in 2D and 3D CAD modeling.
  • Excellent root cause analysis skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Mechanical Piping, HVAC design, and Industrial Manufacturing.
  • Modular construction and data center experience.
