Sr Mechanical Engineer
About the role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the design, development, and validation of mechanical systems for advanced products. This role focuses on prototype development, 3D printer integration, and R&D initiatives, working cross-functionally to translate concepts into manufacturable solutions. The Senior Mechanical Engineer will mentor junior engineers, drive continuous improvement, and ensure designs meet performance, reliability, and cost targets.
Responsibilities
- Lead mechanical design from concept through production, including detailed 3D CAD modeling, tolerance analysis, and drawing creation using Autodesk Inventor and related Autodesk tools.
- Drive prototyping efforts: plan, fabricate, and test prototypes using in-house 3D printers and external vendor services; iterate designs rapidly based on test results.
- Manage R&D projects: define technical requirements, develop test plans, run experiments, analyze data, and document results to support product innovation.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with electrical, firmware, manufacturing, and supply chain teams to ensure seamless integration and manufacturability of mechanical systems.
- Develop and maintain design standards, best practices, and FMEA/DFMEA documentation to improve reliability and reduce risk.
- Provide technical mentorship and guidance to junior engineers and technicians, conducting design reviews and offering constructive feedback.
- Support supplier selection and qualification, provide technical direction during tooling and production ramp, and resolve production issues in partnership with manufacturing engineering.
- Contribute to cost reduction and design for manufacturability initiatives while maintaining performance, safety, and regulatory compliance.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field; MS preferred.
- 7+ years of mechanical design experience, including hands-on prototyping and product development in R&D or high-mix manufacturing environments.
- Proven expertise with 3D CAD modeling using Autodesk Inventor; familiarity with other Autodesk products is a plus.
- Practical experience with 3D printers, additive manufacturing processes, and prototype fabrication techniques.
- Strong background in prototyping, test planning, data analysis, and iterative design.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams (electrical, firmware, manufacturing, supply chain) and to lead technical discussions.
- Experience with DFMEA, tolerance analysis, GD&T, and preparing documentation for production release.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills, with a track record of mentoring junior engineers and driving projects to completion.
