Individuals assigned to this classification will perform engineering calculations and must be able to layout and design systems in accordance with established policies, standards, procedures, and code. They shall exercise judgment in their application with minimal to no supervision, apply practical knowledge and experience to resolve project-related problems, and make independent decisions for engineering tasks. Individuals may supervise subordinate personnel and assist other engineers or designers.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering and a minimum of 8 years of experience (EIT preferable).
- Associate degree with a minimum of 10 years’ experience in the design of Mechanical systems under the supervision of a Professional Engineer.
- 10+ years of practical experience in Mechanical fields (preferred but not required).
Responsibilities
- Complete job requirements for Mechanical Designer III successfully.
- Demonstrate excellent knowledge of discipline-specific codes and other building codes.
- Possess strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Lead and educate clients on design and project requirements.
- Meet with the Project Engineer and Project Manager to discuss design scope, schedule, budget, phasing, site issues, and design review issues.
- Collaborate with the Project Manager and Project Engineer to prepare design budgets and schedules.
- Estimate discipline man-hours required to complete project design requirements.
- Provide leadership, assign design tasks, and supervise efforts to complete projects on time and within budget.
- Implement system types as selected by the Project Engineer and produce complete construction documents matching client and project team requirements.
- Review preliminary and final designs with other disciplines for function, clearances, coordination, and final design selection.
- Maintain client contacts and coordination.
- Perform quality control (QC) on projects in coordination with all disciplines and project engineers.
- Mentor and motivate Engineering Designers I, II, and III.
- Uphold high standards, professional integrity, and prioritize company and client best interests.
- Meet fast-paced deadlines while maintaining quality design.
- Perform additional duties as required.
