About The Role

In this opportunity as Senior Manager, Website Optimization & Personalization, you will own the end-to-end strategy, capability building, and execution of our personalization program—serving as the primary domain expert and strategic partner to our Senior Director of Web Experience Strategy & Optimization. This Senior Manager role carries a high level of scope and responsibility, requiring both strategic thinking and hands-on execution.

Strategic Personalization Leadership

  • Own the personalization strategy and vision for Thomson Reuters' digital properties, translating high-level business goals into a concrete, sequenced roadmap.
  • Move the organization from one-size-fits-all messaging toward more sophisticated audience segmentation, content targeting, and journey customization—establishing what personalization maturity means for TR in a B2B context.
  • Build the foundational capability roadmap: data infrastructure, audience layers, personalization frameworks, testing approaches, and technology architecture.
  • Articulate the business case and ROI potential of personalization investments, translating technical capabilities into business outcomes across different customer journeys (awareness, consideration, purchase, retention, support).
  • Partner with the Senior Director on top-level stakeholder alignment, business strategy translation, and executive communication (Senior Director handles organizational positioning; you provide the domain expertise and operational clarity).

Program Building & Execution

  • Own the operationalization of the personalization program: define processes, workflows, governance, and ways of working that allow the organization to move from pilot to scale.
  • Build the personalization roadmap in partnership with Digital Product Managers and other stakeholders, defining specific use cases, sequencing, dependencies, and resource requirements.
  • Translate business requirements into technical specifications with particular attention to data strategy and instrumentation: work closely with Adobe experts (Target, Audience Manager, Experience Platform), WebOps, and CDP teams to understand technology constraints, data flow, and ensure proper analytical tagging that supports both optimization objectives and measurement integrity.
  • Drive continuous testing and learning around personalization approaches—partner with the Senior Manager of Optimization on how to test and validate new personalization strategies.
  • Own the learning engine—create documentation, maintain learning repositories, and produce artifacts that increase organizational knowledge about personalization & optimization successes, learnings, and best practices.
  • Guide the Program Manager on program cadence management, milestone tracking, risk surfacing, and dependency management to keep the program moving forward.
  • Leverage AI-native tools to enable personalization and speed to market.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead a high-performing team of junior and experienced optimization specialists, setting clear expectations and creating a culture of continuous learning and growth.
  • Coach team members on both technical depth (testing methodology, analytics, audience segmentation) and soft skills (communication, cross-functional partnership, business acumen).
  • Build strong interpersonal skills: demonstrate emotional intelligence, establish psychological safety, and maintain clear boundaries that enable trust and accountability.
  • Develop deep knowledge of each team member's potential and create growth opportunities that challenge them appropriately.
  • Partner with the Program Manager on day-to-day operations, but own the team's direction, culture, effectiveness, and contribution to organizational objectives.

Cross-Functional Alignment & Influence

  • Partner closely with Digital Product Managers and other marketing partners to understand business requirements and translate them into personalization opportunities.
  • Coordinate across multiple reporting lines to ensure alignment on personalization strategy, shared standards, and data requirements.
  • Serve as the translator between business stakeholders and technical teams—making complex personalization architecture accessible and helping teams understand business context and ROI implications.
  • Escalate dependencies and blockers to Senior Director when cross-functional alignment needs organizational-level resolution.

Requirements

Required Experience

  • 8-10+ years in digital marketing, web personalization, optimization, or related roles.
  • 5+ years driving web personalization activities across large organizations; ideally leveraging Adobe Target.
  • 3+ years managing and developing teams, including coaching across different experience levels.
  • Track record of successfully building personalization capabilities or programs from the ground up, or significantly expanding and maturing existing programs.
  • Experience translating personalization strategy into operational roadmaps and delivering against them.
  • Hands-on expertise with personalization technology stack from Adobe or other equivalent platforms, such as: Adobe Target (decisioning engine), Adobe Audience Manager (audience segmentation and activation), Adobe Analytics (measurement and insight), and Adobe Experience Manager.
  • Experience with A/B testing and experimentation methodologies.
  • Deep understanding of how to segment audiences, build and activate audience segments, configure targeting rules, and measure personalization impact across digital properties.
  • Understanding of data strategy, data governance, and audience activation platforms.
  • Success working in complex, matrixed organizations and influencing across reporting lines without direct authority.
  • Experience in B2B or enterprise software is a plus.

Required Skills & Attributes

  • Domain Expertise: You think in frameworks about personalization maturity, audience segmentation, content targeting, and testing methodologies. You deeply understand data architecture—how data flows through CDPs, how analytical tagging structures support both business reporting and optimization/testing, and how audience activation works technically. You understand the technology stack deeply enough to advise on data strategy and capability roadmap, but you can translate technical concepts into business language.
  • Execution Operator: You don't just think strategically—you know how to turn strategy into concrete programs with clear phases, dependencies, and success metrics. You can operate in the ambiguity of building something new.
  • Independent and Self-Directed: You don't need to be told what to do. You understand the business context, you anticipate what needs to happen, and you take action. You have strong opinions grounded in experience, and you're not afraid to share them respectfully.
  • People Leader: You can manage diverse personalities and experience levels. You coach people, set clear expectations, hold boundaries, and create psychological safety. You're emotionally intelligent and patient, but also direct about performance.
  • Strategic Communicator: You can explain complex technical and strategic concepts to non-technical audiences. You can distill information and communicate at multiple levels (exec summary to detailed roadmap). You partner effectively with leadership on strategy translation.
  • Business Learner: You absorb organizational context quickly. You understand different customer journeys and business models. In B2B environments, you can learn fast and apply frameworks appropriately rather than just transplanting B2C patterns.
  • Cross-Functional Influencer: You can work effectively with teams that don't report to you. You build credibility, coordinate dependencies, and create alignment without formal authority.

Preferred Skills

  • Familiarity with marketing automation platforms and email personalization.
  • Background in web development, statistics, or analytics.

Personal Qualities

  • Intellectually curious and committed to continuous learning.

  • Energetic and forward-thinking about emerging personalization technologies and approaches.
