About the role
The Senior Manager – Tax Planning role at Digital Realty Trust, Inc. plays a crucial part in supporting various strategic initiatives such as M&A, cross-border acquisitions/dispositions, joint-venture initiatives, and capital market transactions. This role involves providing in-house REIT and tax advice to other business teams, evaluating tax planning opportunities, and advising on partnership transactions.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with the Sr. Tax Director to provide day-to-day in-house REIT and tax advice to other business teams with respect to tax/REIT structuring on acquisitions or dispositions, product developments, capital market transactions and joint venture initiatives.
- Evaluate ongoing tax planning opportunities and the implementation of any reorganization and restructuring initiatives for the Company’s REIT compliance and/or reducing cash tax expense.
- Advise and assist with partnership transactions and associated tax consequences related to formation, contribution of appreciated properties, assumptions of liabilities, disguised sales considerations, REIT prohibited transaction exposure for both domestic and international joint-ventures.
- Advises and assists global tax teams on all U.S./REIT tax matters, transfer pricing considerations and treasury functions (e.g., managing F/X exposures).
- Support global tax teams on M&A integration, reorganization/restructures and REIT compliance.
- Maintain strong working relationships and coordination with external consultants and advisors.
- Influence and collaborate with key cross-functional partners and leadership in Accounting, Finance, Legal and Business teams.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting/Finance
- At least 7 years of corporate tax experience, including public accounting, law and industry experience
- Solid experience with and working knowledge of U.S. corporate and partnership with a focus on real estate industry; experience with international taxation is strongly preferred but not required
- Solid working knowledge of and experience with real estate investment trusts (REITs)
- Demonstrated experience supporting M&A transactions
- Experience with tax advisory including due diligence, structuring (in-bound, outbound and joint-ventures) and scenario modeling
- Ability to communicate complex tax technical concepts to non-tax business teams to successfully implement initiatives

- The ability to achieve goals and work independently as well as to contribute as a team player
Skills
- Preferred but not required: Master's degree in Taxation/or Accounting, Big Four experience
