About the role
The Sr. Manager, SALT/Indirect role is part of the Tax Finance organization at DePuy Synthes, a newly formed standalone orthopedic company. This role is based in Raynham, MA or West Chester, PA or Palm Beach Gardens, FL or Warsaw, IN or Raritan, NJ.
Responsibilities
- Lead U.S. SALT and indirect tax compliance, including sales and use tax, property tax, gross receipts, and other transaction-based taxes.
- Manage tax provision, audits, controversy matters, and correspondence with state and local taxing authorities.
- Develop and execute SALT and indirect tax planning strategies to manage risk, optimize cash flow, and support business initiatives.
- Partner cross-functionally with Finance, Legal, Supply Chain, and Commercial teams to assess tax implications of new products, business models, and transactions.
- Oversee third-party advisors and ensure high-quality, timely deliverables aligned with company standards.
- Lead and mentor team members, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Monitor legislative and regulatory changes impacting SALT and indirect taxes and assess business impact.
- Ensure strong internal controls, documentation, and compliance with company policies and external regulations.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Tax, or a related field (required). Master’s degree in Taxation or MBA (preferred).
- Experience: Typically requires 8-10 years of progressive experience in SALT and/or indirect tax, including experience in a large multinational organization or public accounting firm.
- Skills: Demonstrated expertise in U.S. state and local tax compliance and planning. Experience managing audits and interacting with taxing authorities. Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder-management skills. Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and complex projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Preferred: Supporting manufacturing, supply chain, or commercial operations. Prior people-management experience. Experience with tax technology solutions and process improvement initiatives. Knowledge of indirect tax implications related to medical devices or regulated industries.
