About the role
The Sr. Manager, SALT/Indirect plays a critical leadership role within the Tax Finance organization, responsible for overseeing U.S. state and local tax (SALT) and indirect tax compliance, planning, and risk management activities. This role partners closely with Finance, Supply Chain, Commercial, and external advisors to ensure tax compliance while supporting business growth and operational excellence.
Responsibilities
- Lead U.S. SALT and indirect tax compliance, including sales and use tax, property tax, gross receipts, and other transaction-based taxes.
- Manage tax provision, audits, controversy matters, and correspondence with state and local taxing authorities.
- Develop and execute SALT and indirect tax planning strategies to manage risk, optimize cash flow, and support business initiatives.
- Partner cross-functionally with Finance, Legal, Supply Chain, and Commercial teams to assess tax implications of new products, business models, and transactions.
- Oversee third-party advisors and ensure high-quality, timely deliverables aligned with company standards.
- Lead and mentor team members, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Monitor legislative and regulatory changes impacting SALT and indirect taxes and assess business impact.
- Ensure strong internal controls, documentation, and compliance with company policies and external regulations.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Tax, or a related field (required). Master’s degree in Taxation or MBA (preferred).
- Experience and Skills: Typically requires 8-10 years of progressive experience in SALT and/or indirect tax, including experience in a large multinational organization or public accounting firm. Demonstrated expertise in U.S. state and local tax compliance and planning. Experience managing audits and interacting with taxing authorities. Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder-management skills. Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and complex projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Preferred Experience: Supporting manufacturing, supply chain, or commercial operations. Prior people-management experience. Experience with tax technology solutions and process improvement initiatives. Knowledge of indirect tax implications related to medical devices or regulated industries.
