About the Role
The Senior Manager, QE Automation & Architecture leads the development, implementation, and optimization of test automation strategies and frameworks across all Quality Engineering teams within Technology. This role fosters continuous improvement in automation coverage, integrates solutions into CI/CD pipelines, and monitors key performance indicators to support the company’s goal of achieving Elite DORA performance status.
Responsibilities
- Define and own the automation strategy, framework architecture, and toolchain across all QE teams
- Design and implement scalable test automation frameworks for web, mobile, API, and integration testing layers
- Rationalize and review existing test automation tools and efforts to optimize and strategically align with business objectives
- Build test automation process from qualification, intake and prioritization, to maintenance and sunsetting
- Lead the integration of automated test suites into CI/CD pipelines, supporting the organization's goal of reaching Elite DORA performance status by 2030
- Establish standards for automation scripting, code review, and test infrastructure governance
- Drive automation coverage growth across functional, regression, and performance testing
- Partner with DevOps and Cloud/Infrastructure teams to align test environments, pipeline reliability, and canary/staged deployment testing strategies
- Define and monitor automation KPIs — including automation execution velocity, pipeline pass rates, and flakiness rates
- Evaluate and onboard new testing tools and technologies, including AI/ML-assisted testing approaches, in alignment with the AI governance policy
- Champion shift-left testing by embedding automated checks early in the development lifecycle
- Lead and mentor automation engineers and architects within the QE organization
Requirements
- 20+ years in QE/QA with 10+ years focused on automation architecture and framework development and leading automation efforts with teams
- Hands-on expertise with automation frameworks (e.g., Selenium, Playwright, Cypress, Appium, RestAssured, or equivalent)
- Deep experience integrating test automation into CI/CD pipelines (Harness, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or equivalent)
- Strong programming/scripting skills in at least one language (Python, Java, JavaScript/TypeScript)
- Deep experience with API testing, mobile test automation, and device cloud/grid platforms
- Demonstrated ability to define automation governance standards and test architecture best practices
- Experience with tools strategy – vetting, review, rationalization, planning, optimization, and vendor coordination
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and cloud-native testing architecture
- Familiarity with performance/load testing tools (e.g., JMeter, Gatling, etc.)
- Knowledge of PCI/SOX compliance requirements impacting test automation
- Experience with AI/ML-assisted test generation or intelligent test selection tools
- Background in QSR, eCommerce, or payment platform automation testing
Expected Outcomes
- Within 30 days: Current-state automation audit complete, automation strategy and processes defined, recommendations proposed
- Within 90 days: Strategy execution, process in place. Intake process and prioritization, coordination ongoing across teams
- Within 6 months: Automation integrated into all active CI/CD pipelines across primary domains; pipeline flakiness below target threshold; automation coverage KPIs published, automation metrics consistent and standardized, and ROI/ROE tracked and analyzed
- Within 12 months: Significant lift in testing effort efficiency and path for cumulative efficiency gains. Measurable increase in automation coverage for regression suites; reduction in manual regression cycle time; QE automation positioned to support Elite DORA deployment frequency goals for 2030
