About the Role

The University of Miami’s Office of Civic and Community Engagement (CCE) seeks a Senior Manager Programs to plan, direct, and coordinate activities related to community development, affordable housing, and climate resilience. This role involves conducting and overseeing research, ensuring project goals are met within prescribed timeframes and funding parameters, and building relationships with public, private, and non-profit community partners.

The Senior Manager Programs will also oversee collaborative projects with consultants and community partners, assist in grant projects, hire and train graduate students in data collection and GIS platforms, represent CCE at community meetings, seek new grant opportunities, and provide administrative support for grants and public programs. This position reports to the Founding Director for Civic and Community Engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Design the scope of research and programs, develop project work plans, and arrange for recruitment and assignment of resources to execute projects.
  • Maintain and develop relationships with community partners in housing, community development, and urban resilience for joint projects and access to CCE programming.
  • Develop and coordinate project activities with collaborating University departments.
  • Gather and analyze housing, climate, and demographic data from public agencies and work with software engineers and GIS specialists to maintain and update the Miami Housing Solutions Lab and other online mapping platforms.
  • Present and train public officials, community leaders, and private sector organizations in the use of online mapping tools.
  • Oversee preparation of agendas, documents, logistics, and follow-ups for project-related community partner and departmental meetings.
  • Oversee and coordinate both existing and new community partner relationships.
  • Complete all phases of grant writing, implementation, and reporting.
  • Seek out new sources of grant funding.
  • Represent CCE at community meetings.
  • Take a leading role in the implementation of CCE housing and resilience projects.
  • Assist other departments on special projects, promotions, and duties as needed or requested.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for research assistants and assist with inquiries.
  • Prepare, maintain, and report on program effectiveness.
  • Assist with managing the program budget by monitoring expenditures.
  • Stay abreast of market trends and legislation impacting program functions.
  • Check, verify, organize, and prepare grants, procurement, and other program-relevant documents.
  • May supervise, monitor, train, and evaluate program staff members to ensure compliance with applicable policies and procedures.
  • Work with other departments to increase program visibility and awareness.
  • Identify new needs and emerging issues and develop new programs, initiatives, and resources.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred in social science, public policy, urban planning, or a related field, with five years of appropriate experience.
  • An appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.
  • Experience in quantitative data analysis and qualitative research methods.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Effective organizational skills and program management experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • GIS experience.
  • Experience with non-profit organizations and government agencies.
  • Website design or development experience.
  • Meeting facilitation training or experience.
  • Communications training or experience.
  • Program evaluation experience.
  • Grant writing experience.
