Sr. Manager, Financial Accounting
CarMax, the nation’s largest used car retailer, is seeking a Sr. Manager for CarMax Auto Finance Accounting in Kennesaw, GA. This role is pivotal in overseeing recurring accounting processes and supporting financial integrity across the organization.
About the role
As a Sr. Manager, you will serve as CarMax Auto Finance’s steadfast resource for all recurring accounting processes, leveraging expertise with company financial systems. You’ll proactively identify opportunities for improvement, balancing big-picture thinking with meticulous attention to detail. Strong analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills are essential, along with effective prioritization and time management.
Responsibilities
- Oversee cyclical accounting processes, including general ledger closing procedures, journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, financial statement analysis, and compiling financial reporting and footnote support for SEC filings and earnings releases.
- Review work completed by the CAF Financial Accounting Team, including journal entries, reconciliations, and quarterly analysis documents.
- Partner with Home Office Accounting, Treasury/External Vendor Relationship, Loss Forecasting, and other CAF departments to provide accounting and data support.
- Lead all external audit processes, including preparation of client-prepared schedules for quarterly reviews, annual audits, SOX 404 testing, and maintenance of financial reporting process documentation.
- Analyze data to identify trends and recommend improvements to relevant business areas.
- Participate in and/or lead special projects, such as implementing or maintaining new accounting standards and systems.
- Select, lead, manage, and engage a team of salaried associates responsible for accounting, reconciliation, and reporting functions.
Requirements
- CPA required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and/or Finance.
- Five years of general accounting experience in public accounting and/or corporate accounting or financial reporting.
- Exposure to SEC reporting requirements and experience preparing or analyzing financial statements preferred.
- Three or more years of experience leading teams, including supervising direct reports.
- Intermediate to advanced knowledge of accounting principles and theories, including financial statements, financial systems, and payment processing.
Schedule
This role is based at the CarMax Auto Finance office in Kennesaw, GA. Associates will work onsite 4 days per week.
Pay
Annual salary range: $112,800.00 - $180,500.00. May be eligible for bonus and equity.
Benefits
- Full-time hourly or commission/incentive-eligible associates accrue up to 48 hours of sick time per year and between 80–200 hours of vacation time annually after a 90-day waiting period, depending on years of service.
- 6 paid scheduled holidays per year plus 1 floating holiday; Holiday Premium Pay for working on a scheduled holiday.
- Full-time salaried associates receive paid time away for sick leave, vacation, bereavement, jury duty, holidays, and floating holidays, subject to manager approval.
