About the role
The Senior Legal Operations Specialist, Compliance Programs & Controls role at Honeywell focuses on trade diversion risk mitigation, export and sanctions compliance operations, third-party due diligence, and legal transformation initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and enhance the end-to-end trade diversion risk mitigation program, including corporate policy, roles and responsibilities, red flag identification methodology, escalation framework, control, audit, employee training, and jurisdiction-specific playbooks (with emphasis on Russia, the BIS Affiliates Rule, and high-risk transshipment corridors)
- Maintain and improve trade compliance risk models, dashboards, and heat maps for diversion, export control, and sanctions risk, using data to support prioritization, escalation, and control design
- Draft business requirements documents and translate compliance requirements into control points, system logic, and automation requirements, including subscription workflows, beneficial ownership screening, vessel IMO screening, and third-party due diligence workflows
- Partner with IT, Legal, and business stakeholders on SAP/GTS implementations, including requirements gathering, configuration input, user acceptance testing, go-live readiness, post-implementation validation, and audit support
- Support the third-party due diligence strategy and Certa workflow design, including intake, risk tiering, screening logic, escalation paths, reporting, and process improvement
- Manage relationships with internal stakeholders and external technology, data, and compliance service providers to support system performance, issue resolution, and program execution
- Partner across Legal, Compliance, IT, Finance, and business teams to develop and mature Legal Global Design Models, including standardized processes, controls, roles, and supporting technology
- Drive change management, including communications and training development
- Support legal operations optimization initiatives, including process mapping, workload analysis, operating model improvements, metric development, and implementation planning
- Identify process gaps, recommend practical improvements, and coordinate implementation across functional and business stakeholders
Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in legal operations, compliance operations, trade compliance, sanctions/export controls, risk management, business process transformation, or a related operational role
- 1-2 years of experience in trade compliance, sanctions, export controls, third-party risk, or related compliance program operations
- Systems fluency with SAP, SAP GTS, Salesforce, Snowflake, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Office; experience with workflow, screening, reporting, or third-party due diligence platforms preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in business, legal studies, compliance, supply chain, international relations, information systems, data analytics, or a related field preferred
- Familiarity with EAR, ITAR, OFAC sanctions programs, EU dual-use and sanctions frameworks, UK OFSI, and high-risk jurisdiction or transshipment controls
- Ability to monitor regulatory developments and translate new requirements into operational controls, playbooks, training, and system requirements
- PMP, Lean Six Sigma, Agile/Scrum, legal operations, compliance, or process improvement certification preferred but not required
- Ability to translate regulatory and legal requirements into business processes, system requirements, controls, and reporting for Legal, IT, Finance, Revenue Operations, and business stakeholders
- Experience with legal operations, compliance, and workflow tools, such as matter management, e-billing, third-party due diligence, screening, contract lifecycle, reporting, or analytics platforms
- Knowledge of legal operations practices, including process design, intake, workflow governance, metrics, controls, documentation, and change management
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to create clear requirements, training materials, stakeholder updates, and executive-ready summaries
- Strong analytical skills, including the ability to interpret data, identify risk patterns, evaluate control effectiveness, and recommend practical process improvements
