Sr. IBM ETL DataStage Developer

About the role

This position will assist in supporting critical DOL operational functions focused on the development and optimization of DOL Data Warehouse (DW) System processes, respond to critical requests, and assist in the transition of legacy processes to the new NYS Unemployment Insurance System.

Responsibilities

• Ensure application documentation is complete, organized, accessible, and follows office standards.
• Write, test, and debug new and existing code based on program area knowledge, conceptual and technical design specifications.
• Write and test procedures, parameters, and other specifications required to implement programs.
• Develop or assist with the development of unit, component, and program test plans.
• Implement program changes and provide user support as required.
• Design, develop, support, and perform data mining related to new and existing complex Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) routines for Fraud Detection/Improper Payment algorithms.
• Develop, test, and implement program logic for data mining and ETL development.
• Implement ETL technical specifications from development through test, staging, and production environments.
• Optimize ETL data load jobs to improve performance and automate.
• Investigate and resolve data loading and/or data integrity issues.
• Create solutions to improve system performance and availability.
• Develop and maintain logical and physical dimensional data models for data warehouse/data mart.
• Write clear documentation of process and data modeling, including unit and quality assurance test plans.
• Develop data analysis and metrics queries for operational oversight.
• Perform DataStage Administrator tasks on AIX environments, including implementing and maintaining business and technical rules, automating ETL code migration, and setting standards for stop/start services, monitoring logs, and setting up security.
• Assign roles, project permissions, create/delete projects, and create/modify environmental parameters.
• Handle platform issue resolution, troubleshooting, root cause analysis, configuration, and tuning of production and lower-level environments, and capacity planning.

Requirements

• 14+ years of experience in Information Technology, with expertise in development platforms, technical architectures, or business applications beyond that of a Programmer.
• 72 months of ETL development experience in an Oracle environment with IBM DataStage.
• 84 months of ETL design/Data Warehouse development experience using SQL and PL/SQL programming.
• 84 months of experience tuning SQL within an Oracle environment to improve timely and efficient execution of queries.
• 84 months of UNIX Shell Scripting experience.
• 60 months of experience in programming and unit testing.
• 60 months of experience in program code documentation, mentoring, and assisting other developers.
• 60 months of experience working with PPI and SSA data security requirements for production system error diagnosis, debugging, and code modification.
• 84 months of experience developing dimensional data models for Cognos data analytics.
• 84 months of experience developing data analysis and metrics queries for operational oversight.
• 84 months of DataStage Administrator experience on AIX environments.
