Sr Hardware Development Engineer, AWS Board Core Design and Services Team

About the role

The Sr Hardware Development Engineer, AWS Board Core Design and Services Team, will own next-generation server components. They will interact with an interdisciplinary team to design, develop, validate, and launch these components at large scale. The role requires expertise in motherboard design, PCB design, and server technologies such as thermal, mechanical, power, and signal integrity.

Responsibilities

• Architect and develop next-generation server components, including motherboards, graphics, accelerators, and programmable hardware.
• Collaborate with ECAD/physical board designers and review PCB designs using tools like Allegro, CAM350, or similar.
• Create and review functional specifications, design verification plans, and functional test procedures.
• Interface with thermal, mechanical, firmware, and software teams during product development.
• Develop and execute test procedures for mechanical or electrical systems/components based on design intent and approved equipment submissions.
• Identify and resolve complex issues, and understand component selection and reliability.
• Design and develop large-scale services, and work with interdisciplinary teams to execute product design from concept to production.
• Manage the fleet of servers in the data center, tracking key business and operational metrics to ensure smooth operation and minimize customer impact.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or above in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent.
• 7+ years of hardware engineering experience.
• Experience collaborating with ECAD/physical board designers and reviewing PCB designs with Allegro, CAM350, or equivalent.
• Experience in developing functional specifications, design verification plans, and functional test procedures.
• 7+ years of experience with I2C, SPI, UART interfaces.
• Experience interfacing with thermal, mechanical, firmware, and software teams during product development.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent.
• Experience in motherboard design, PCB design including schematic capture, stackup, and circuit board layout.
• Experience in server technologies such as thermal, mechanical, power, and signal integrity.
• Experience developing and executing test procedures for mechanical or electrical systems/components based on design intent and approved equipment submissions.
• Experience identifying and resolving complex issues.
• Experience in component selection and understanding of component reliability.
• Experience in designing and developing large-scale services.
• Experience working with interdisciplinary teams to execute product design from concept to production.
• 10+ years of experience in server design for cloud or enterprise applications.
• Strong organizational and planning skills.
• Desire to work in a fast-paced environment.

Pay

Base salary range: $183,000.00 - $247,600.00 USD annually
