About the role

The Office of Research Administration (ORA) at the University of Miami is seeking an ORA Sr. Grant Administrator to join their team.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews, analyzes, negotiates, endorses and submits completed proposals and awards to ensure compliance with sponsoring agency and University of Miami requirements.
  • Mentors, supervises, and trains junior grant administration staff to enhance talent development.
  • Approves and submits agency requests.
  • Contributes to updating and maintaining systems roles.
  • Contributes creative solutions towards process improvement.
  • Communicates with extramural agencies on proposal and grant-related matters.
  • Provides advice to faculty and staff regarding sponsored research administration issues, interpreting sponsor policies, government regulations, and terms and conditions.
  • Collaborates with other University groups such as Principal Investigators and study teams, Compliance, IRB (Human Subject Research Office), Risk Management, sponsors, and other relevant offices to ensure efficient and effective management of sponsored research projects.
  • Tracks grant applications and follows up with funding agencies.
  • Keeps abreast of relevant professional information by attending professional development opportunities and trainings.
  • Assists Assoc. Director/Executive Director, as needed.
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in relevant field.
  • Certification and Licensing: Certified Clinical Research Associate (CRA) preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum 5 years of relevant/related experience in research administration, including proposal development review and submission, and award review.
  • Sponsored programs administration experience in a university setting preferred.
  • Demonstrated extensive experience in pre-award research administration, including proposal review & submission, and award review.

Skills and Attitudes

  • In-depth knowledge of University and Federal agency requirements including NIH, DOD/DARPA, NSF, FAA, and DOE, and OMB Circulars, Export Control Regulations, Federal Acquisition Regulations.
  • Knowledge of Sponsor and University systems (i.e., Huron Research suite, grants.gov, eRA Commons) and any other sponsor systems.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise independent judgment and professionalism.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with outstanding customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated professional experience and judgment to effectively serve faculty and sponsors while protecting, representing, and advancing the University's best interests.
  • Ability to work well under deadline pressures without sacrificing accuracy, customer service, collegiality, or ethics.
  • Strong contract analytic skills.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in many different proposal submission systems.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft office and Internet applications.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and confidentiality.
  • Ability to be organized and monitor priorities.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting procedures and principles.
