PURPOSE
Serve as a senior technical resource responsible for leading complex engineering work supporting the operation, maintenance, repair, and long-term asset management of Dairyland Power’s gas turbine plant equipment and auxiliary systems.
Essential Job Functions
- Serve as senior/resident engineering lead for assigned gas turbine facilities as directed, providing strategic and day-to-day engineering support and ensuring effective communication and alignment between Operations, Plant Engineering, and plant leadership.
- Lead technical direction, planning, and execution strategy for major gas turbine maintenance outages (Combustion, Hot Gas Path, Major Inspection, Generator, etc.), including scope development, risk identification/mitigation, and post-outage lessons learned.
- Produce and/or approve high-quality outage and investigation reports, including repair/replace recommendations, technical justification, and lifecycle impacts.
- Lead evaluation of OEM/service bulletins and fleet-wide recommendations; define compliance and implementation strategy and ensure technical consistency across facilities.
- Develop, optimize, and standardize maintenance management and reliability programs/best practices for dual-fuel gas turbine operations; drive continuous improvement using performance and reliability metrics.
- Lead troubleshooting and root cause analysis of complex turbine and auxiliary system issues, integrating multi-discipline input; develop corrective action plans and prevent recurrence.
- Provide senior-level technical specifications and procurement support; evaluate vendor proposals and technical deviations; support selection decisions and contract technical requirements.
- Lead documentation for major engineered and special maintenance projects (project requests, estimates, schedules, procurement documents, progress/completion reporting) and ensure documentation quality and completeness.
- Ensure cooperative resources are used in a cost-effective manner; provide technical input that supports long-term cost optimization and reliability goals.
- Direct and coordinate the activities of A/Es, consultants, business partners, OEMs, and DPC personnel for successful completion of complex projects; ensure quality, schedule, and safety expectations are met.
- Lead data collection, analysis, and trending (performance, reliability, failure modes) to identify issues and improvement opportunities; recommend and justify operational and equipment changes.
- Provide senior technical support in communications with regulatory agencies at federal, state, and local levels as needed; ensure technical accuracy and completeness of engineering-related responses.
- Maintain and expand professional expertise through industry engagement, conferences, and professional networks; bring forward relevant innovations and lessons learned to improve fleet performance.
- Lead feasibility studies, surveys, and engineering investigations; lead/approve engineering design reviews and provide technical authority input into contract documents.
- Establish expectations for project recordkeeping and documentation; ensure accurate and timely administrative control of technical records, drawings, photos, and project documentation.
- Lead evaluation and use of computer programs/models to assess operational changes and unit modifications; validate assumptions and results; guide others in model use as appropriate.
- Provide senior technical support and consultation to other Operations division engineers; act as a go-to technical resource for gas turbine engineering issues.
- Lead and/or chair multi-department projects or committees and drive alignment across stakeholders.
- Make safety a priority in all duties; promote and reinforce safe work practices and hazard awareness across internal and external work teams.
Minimum Qualifications
- B.S. Degree in engineering or physical sciences.
- Minimum 7 years relevant experience (including turbine field engineering and/or technical field advisor experience).
- Strong preference for GE Frame 6B and 7FA dual fuel experience.
Skills
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Advanced professional communication skills, including technical report writing, executive-ready summaries, and presentations.
- Demonstrated ability to lead complex technical work and influence cross-functional outcomes.
Physical Demands
- 25% office environment with minimal exertion.
- 75% fieldwork with medium strenuous activity.
- Requires near vision and fingering for computer work.
- Fieldwork requires walking, standing, stooping/crouching, bending, kneeling, climbing hand-over-hand, crawling, twisting upper body, reaching/stretching, and object maneuvering; near/far vision and hearing required.
Environmental Demands
- May work on uneven terrain, significant heights, and in hot or inclement weather.
- Occasional exposure to noise, high voltage/amperage equipment, high pressure/high temperature equipment, high-speed rotating equipment, hazardous air quality near/within generating stations, rotating machinery, high decibel noise, ionizing radiation, fumes and chemical hazards.
