About the Role
This position is for a Senior Environmental Specialist located at the Crane Clean Energy Center (CEC) in Middletown, PA. The role provides independent technical, regulatory, and program support for Constellation Nuclear Environmental compliance across all relevant environmental areas. The Specialist serves as the program owner and administrator, collaborating with functional areas to ensure facility compliance (e.g., Air Permits, DOT hazardous waste shipments, NPDES permits, hazardous/non-hazardous waste regulations, storage tanks, drinking water, Spill Prevention Control Countermeasures, SARA/EPRA, ISO/Environmental Management Systems, OSHA chemical safety, and Hazmat). The role involves attending and presenting at leadership meetings, engaging with industry trade groups and regulatory agencies, and developing stakeholder relationships. The Specialist is recognized as a subject matter expert in at least one program area and works to expand expertise in additional areas.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical guidance and regulatory support for assigned environmental programs.
- Maintain environmental contracts as assigned.
- Represent the site during internal and external environmental audits.
- Assist in responding to emergent environmental issues for the site and fleet.
- Manage environmental projects, including scope development, proposal solicitation/evaluation, funding requests, timelines, budgets, and deliverables.
- Serve as a technical expert in meetings with regulatory agencies, engineering consultants, legal counsel, and technical committees.
- Review, evaluate, and interpret new and existing environmental regulations and legislation; update procedures to reflect regulatory requirements.
- Support the evaluation of new technology, processes, and programs; recommend actions for Constellation Nuclear operations.
- Perform additional duties as directed, including emergency response, departmental coverage, call-outs, and outage support.
- Develop and deliver environmental training to site personnel as needed.
- Interact with regulatory officials to obtain approvals, permits, certifications, and licenses for environmental projects, pollution control systems, or waste management activities.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental or Chemical Engineering, Biology, Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, Geology, or a related field.
- 6 years of experience working with environmental programs (e.g., Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, Safe Drinking Water Act, SARA, RCRA, or other environmental regulations).
- Minimum of 2 years of experience presenting issues and advocating positions.
- Demonstrated knowledge of multi-media Federal and State environmental statutes and regulations.
- Maintain minimum access requirements or unescorted access qualifications, as applicable, including favorable medical examination/testing.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in the nuclear utility industry.
- Master’s degree or graduate work in engineering, sciences, law, or business.
- Professional certification or other industry recognition.
Pay
Expected salary range of $113,400 to $126,000, based on experience.
